Well Mark Reins ' BIG' Gears announcement ended up being the games release date which just happens to be days before PS3 is launched in each territory.

What kind of effect will the game have on Sony' s sales this holiday?!

Not much. All PS3' s will be sold. To few PS3' s to go around.

Ok, then what kind of effect will Gears and 360 have on PS3 sales into March next year when Halo 3 will be released?!

I think Gears of War is the kind of game everyone expects the 360 to have, an action AAA title.
The people who have already decided to buy a PS3 will not care about GoW since you probably buy the PS3 for the japanese AAA titles. Especially early adopters, who honestly must be consisting of a large amount of Sony fanboys.
GoW might persuade the people who haven' t decided yet into buying a 360 though. That will affect future sales of the PS3. PS3 units that these people would' ve bought will simply not be sold since GoW convinced them buy the 360.
I think the game won' t affect the PS3 sales but it might be the thing that gets some people who have thought of buying a 360 to finally do it. Like me.

Gears is gonna be a huge seller. I' m sure the PS3 will sell out. I' m going to hopefully buy both. I' ll be buying the PS3 to sell it on Ebay though. I' m expecting to make around $400 in profit.

I don' t think on it' s own it will do much to shake the sony camp. I think it' s just really meant along with the coming accessories to make the 360 look a bit more rejuvinated and fresh with the arrival of the competition.

..i' m hoping there will be some sort of ultra cool bundle deal around PS3' s launch, like GOW + Dead Rising + remote, sold at the normal premium price, although i really had my heart set on a flat-out price drop...

On the contrary, i think Gears WILL have a direct effect on Sony' s sales, especially in Europe.

All PS3' swill be pre-sold before release, that' s definate, but Europe is looking like it' s only going to get seed quantities anyway whereas the US and Japan will get " proper" launches.

Sony have said that titles like Heavenly Sword, Eye Toy and Warhawk (?) will miss day one and will be released in the " launch window" which will end when the fiscal year ends (April 1st).

Taking that into account and bearing in mind that Sony are going to end up with the same kind of stock shortage problems that Microsoft had, hell maybe even as bad as the PS2 launch, ...and looking at the large number of 2nd generation 360 titles that will be released in that time (including Halo 3), people thinking about buying a PS3 or those that haven' t had their pre-order met will obviously take a look and see what' s avaiable on 360.

There could be factors that we don' t know about yet, like PS3 games costing more than 360' s or 360 getting a price drop that would have a knock on effect too, but Microsoft are putting Gears up against PS3 for a reason.

All you have to do is look at how well Halo 2 performed (1.5 million pre-orders, 2.4 million copies sold in its first 24 hours on store shelve, 7 million copies sold worldwide after exactly 1 year) and the effect it had on the slimline PS2' s launch. I definately wouldn' t underestimate highly anticipated software like Gears or Halo, even if PS3' s will be pre-sold.

I sincerely hope that ' ' other factors' ' that we don' t know of yet are also in the works to counter sony. Otherwise Gears on it' s own will have a time fending them off despite the price. Halo is an industry gem and has proven and lived up to it' s hype at the time. If gears manages to deliver then word will spread like wildfire and will help microsoft during those five days.

Microsoft will definately have a tons of stuff up it' s sleeve.

I don' t think the PS3 will be as effected as much as GOW. PS3 will be sold out no matter what. PS3 will be even more sparce then the 360 was and the demand will be just as high. Anyone who thinks the ps3 won' t be sold out must be on drugs. I' m sure many PS3 buyers are also 360 owners and if I was to get a ps3 (I won' t) I wouold hold off from buying GOW. By the time I get around to buying GOW I might have beaten it already (rental) and might have lost intrest in favor of other games. If I owned both a PS3 and 360 there will be so many games next Holiday season that even a blockbuster like GOW could be skipped.

At the same time even if people with both PS3 and 360 didn' t buy GOW in November they will eventually (if they were to buy it at all in the first place). So in the long term I don' t see how the November launch will effect either PS3 or GOW.

Still I think it' s cool that the publisher of GOW have the guts to launch against PS3, I bet MS is happy. Sure GOW isn' t Halo 3 but they could do worse.

Gears is a definate but as i' ve been saying for months now i' m waiting until TGS to see what Sony will have at launch.

thank you so much for making note of how halo 2 had an effect on the ps2 slimline sales, the other comment I would like to make is if can all remember back to when xbox was relativeley new and halo 1 came out. Some of you may disagree but that game had a huge factor into how many xbox units were sold, people bought the xbox for the sole purpose of playing halo.

Yes,the reason why i bought halo was not because i seen some review,but because everyone was talking about it in my town,why is tahT?
cause everyone loved it.

that' s exactly what I' m trying to say, people bought an xbox to play halo and people will buy the 360 to play GoW
