I cannot see the point of getting yourself into hock just to be one of the first with a PS3.

When all’s said and done I’ll have spent over £500 on it just so I can play Virtua Fighter 5 and know that I’ve *got* one while everyone is lusting over them.

Though I' m not lusting ;) And I wouldn' t buy something that expensive just to be able to think of the fact that others want one too.

My friend played a demo PS3 that an employee took home the other day...
had no good functionality...just 2 demos and a trailer, but come 23rd i' ll have mine.

Anyone got any suggestions for me for my first game?

VF and Resistance... then cry because you spent that much because you wanted VF as soon as possible like everyone else did

MotorStorm and Flow, that' s what I' d get. I' m not even bothered by the fact that Motorstorm is light on features. Who cares, the game is fun online and that' s what counts. Flow is just one o those little games that everyoen should have, like Geometry Wars for 360. I don' t like Fighters but apparently VF is supposed to be good. I would skip Resistance, the game looks mediocre. I' d wait for a real FPS like UT III (assuming you don' t have a gaming PC).

Oh and if you haven' t played it yet get Oblivion for sure, if you only get one game get that.

Well PS3 has the best EU launch lineup ever and is my most anticipated since Dreamcast.

As long as none are delayed, the following should be available at retail on the 23rd:

* Resistance: Fall of Man
* MotorStorm
* Genji: Days of the Blade
* Formula One CHAMPIONSHIP EDITION
* Ridge Racer 7
* Call of Duty 3
* Marvel: Ultimate Alliance
* Tony Hawk' s Project 8
* Gundam - Target in Sight
* Full Auto 2: Battle Lines
* Sonic the Hedgehog
* Virtua Fighter 5
* Virtua Tennis 3
* World Snooker Championship 2007
* NBA 2K7
* NHL 2K7
* Blazing Angels Squadrons of WWll
* Enchanted Arms
* Tom Clancy' s Splinter Cell: Double Agent
* The Elder Scrolls lV: Oblivion
* Def Jam: Icon
* Fight Night Round 3
* NBA Street 4 Homecourt 2007
* Need for Speed Carbon
* The Godfather: The Don' s Edition
* Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2007
* Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom
* F.E.A.R.

...and the following should be available for download via PSN:

* Tekken: Dark Resurrection
* Gran Turismo HD
* Go! Sudoku
* Go! Puzzle
* Blast Factor
* flOw
* Lemmings
* Super Rub' a' Dub
* Gripshift

So if you don' t have a 360 then there are loads of game to choose from and Gran Turismo HD is free, but if you do there are only a couple of good exclusives.

That said, there are other games due within weeks including GRAW2 and Rainbow Six: Vegas so if you don' t have a 360 then they will be essential if you like " realistic" military shooters.

I' ve pre-ordered Virtua Fighter 5, MotorStorm and Resistance and i' ll be buying Tekken: Dark Resurrection and flOw from PSN on launch day.

The only problem with launches is that there' s traditionally a wait for more good games. In our [EU] case we' re getting the console just a few months before the summer drought so they' ll either have to launch games like Ninja Gaiden Sigma in June/July or make us wait until mid-late August when it starts to get busy again. Last year 360 got nothing for nearly 3 months and then Prey in August.

Fortunately i own a 360 and will be able to pick up The Darkness, Forza 2, C&C3, GTR, Earth Defense Force 2017, Mass Effect etc if PS3 games start to slip into Q3/4.

A very good launch Line up. I hear resistance is great online so thats the main reason I am buying it, Motorstorm is great all round. Who craes if it dosent have split screen? in fairness, I much perfer online. But you cant say no to a good 4 player Race with some mates.

So after the Launch I might pick up Graw 2 for my 3rd title, I want to get Fight night round 3 but I will pick that up when it gets cheaper. Oblivion I allready have, same as for Fear. Dont care for Vitura Fighter, but If I did I would love that it is a launch title. I am looking forward to Flow [whats the point unless you have a nice hd set up though?]

Ninja Gaiden Sigma for Summer? ... I guess we will have to see. I dont see it making summer but maybe a Q3 realise.

oh and Nitro, that tv of yours, is that 720p? or 1080p? is 1080p worth the bother and will 720 display hd just as well?

Mines 720p/1080i. I know people who swear by 1080p TV' s but in my opinion it makes no difference until you get towards 50" .

720p LCD' s are really cheap now so if you want to go HD and don' t want to break the bank then a 32" set will definitely suffice. If however you were going higher than 42" then yeah i' d recommend a 1080p plasma.

Really? Even with ghosting? Yeah, you throw your TV on a white screen for a day & it' s fine, but don' t you think the issue would get worse on a larger screen?

Only if you' re dumb enough to let it burn in. Plus, 1080p TV' s are still super expensive here. Even i wouldn' t pay the prices they ask for a 46" + set. If he' s going HD then a 32" 720p set will do him fine. Especially given that he' s a student.

It' s a store. They do a huge selection of large HDTV' s.

If you have 2 grand to spend then you' ll probably be limited to 37-40" sets for the best ones. Or at least, that' s the situation here. Anything above and the price jumps like £500-£800.

Are HDTV' s widely popular in Ireland yet?

I am sure there is one or two of those Strores around here someplace.

Hdtv' s are not very popular in Ireland yet and only are owned by people like myself who know what its all about. Still, they are pretty cheap now a days and I hope to buy one over summer.

March 29th, same day as the GTA IV trailer, MS should announce the " new" 360 and the discontinuation of the core model along with a premium model price reduction.

Nope I don' t think there is. Well there is none in Dublin so I seriously doubt there is a John Lewis anywhere else.

Dumb' s not the issue though, you play a game with a constant HUD for a decent amount of time & you' re bound to get it. Not the biggest issue in the world, but i' m not going to be bothered with it.

1080p HDTVs proper are ridiculously expensive over here as well. It' s funny, because the other day I was going to pick up Crackdown at Best Buy (!!), and I noticed the HDTVs & the LCD monitors. The 32" 1080p TV was $3200, and the 26" 1200p monitor was $599, and the monitor had more inputs... can you say profit margin?
