Of all the possible names that the console could have ended up with, " Wii" is quite possibly the most stupid.

They seem to have achieved what they wanted, -- mass interest in the system, but Nintendo now expect people to come to terms with it, accept it and eventually love it?!

I don' t like it and i still think there' s the possibility that we are being set up. THAT, if true would be awesome. For a company to not only take the piss out of gamers and people who think that Nintendo is " kiddy" but also to make fun of themselves in a roundabout way. THAT would be a samart move.

I mean, how can a company like Nintendo shake the " kiddy" image it has long been percieved as having?! It' s obvious that getting titles like Star Wars: Rogue whatever, the RE games and Killer 7 simply didn' t do it and it' s partially their own fault...

Wind Waker!

The perfect opportunity to rectify the mistake they made with Super Mario Sunshine, a game that made some big changes and tried to go in a different direction, -- was the next Zelda game. What did they do?! They tried to do exactly the same thing again.

Wind Waker was an awesome game. It had style, looked fantastic and played like a dream (barr the stupid sailing sections). It wasn' t however a game that was going to bring in the kind of gamers they needed. The gamers that Sony had.

They have evidently seen the error of their ways and Twilight Princess looks like a much more mature game. It looks cool and it' s the kind of game that if released earlier could have made people really take notice of Gamecube.

So Nintendo have seen what they need to do, that they need to make adjustments, drop their " kiddy" image and become cool again in the eyes of the mob?! Yeah, it looked that way, especially if you look at DS Lite and the colours it' s available in. It looks much more stylish than the original, it looks more grown up. Revolution LOOKS gorgeous, it looks nicer than 360 and PS3 ever could.

Why then call it " Wii" ?!

Surely that just kills blunts the razor sharp sword they had ready to strike?! Surely!

I don' t even see how Nintendo' s explanation could possibly be valid. Why would you feel the need to EXPLAIN the name you' ve chosen?!

It just all seems very wrong!

Ofcourse, i and the others who feel like this could all be one big joke at our expense could be completely wrong. But i hope not considering i' ll have to go into my local game store and ask to pre-order my " Wii" .

When I think of Red Steel, I think violent, bloody game on a mature console. When I think of Wii, I think it is the name of a kiddy console. Put them together, Red Steel on Wii, and I come up with... Haley Joel Osmond (at the age he did 6th Sense) cutting people dead via chainsaw. " I make dead people."

Well y' see that' s just it. Nintendo are getting the right kind of games to distance itself from being seen as " kiddy" and Red Steel is the only game we' ve actually seen yet, and a game that has been developed closely with Nintendo.

Everything seemed like they had gotten it and that Nintendo had grown up.

Then they hit you with " Wii" and ruined what they had going for them with Revolution. I mean, " wii" may offer some marketing possibilities, but more than " Revolution" ?!

Perhaps they wanted it to be family oriented, the console itself. Nintendo said it should be accessible to all, even to the grandparents and great-grandparents of the population. Of course, kids by default get into anything rather quickly. The television was, and still is, potentially something an entire family could congregate around to watch. Of course, not so much today when people have more than one tube. Still, just because you could watch porn on the tube does not mean the TV is for adults only.

Somewhere, in the dark recesses of my mind, I conjure an image where I would take the Teletubbies and Barney (the dinosaur - I have no gripe against Barney Rubble or Barney from the Simpsons), put them into a violent gaming scenario and rip ' em to shreds.

Call it; Revolution, RS, N5, Revolt, -- anything but " Wii" .

It' s lame!

I understand. Wii is such a crummy name to me too. The only thing it offers me is to sound completely retarded when I mention that console' s name.

Anyway, I' d like to know what you think of the Gizmondo scandal. It surprises me that you haven' t replied to the post since you usually take interest in pretty much everything in these forums. Am I that boring ?

The punk' d think i took from a poster at Gamespot after i posted that i was suspicious about the name.

The blog there was posted before i posted my thoughts here but by then i' d posted on several forums including Gamespot and IGN. I was initially going to just post it on my blog but decide against it seeing as i have told everyone i won' t be updating until E3.

I agree. there is little else to discuss except the confirmation that the analog unit also has tilt funtions though.

The original Punk' d was originally written by us at 1up ' Have wii been Duped?' , people then, just copied and pasted and changed a few names..

That would be viable if it was written before it had been posted on forums and the other guys blog.

As it is, 1UP references Igor International as one of it' s sources of information for the article you are linking to and Snarkhunting is one of their blogs.

Kotaku got thier information from the same place and had an article up asking the same questions thatw ere being asked on various forums after people became suspicious about the name.

Revolution would have been sooo cool!
