You can take pre-orders as soon as the game is announced and your computer updated. The release date is irrelevant.

Just because you could take pre-orders in 2002 doesn’t mean the game has a release date of 2002.

When you go to look up the games that are coming out, the list that gets updated every day, the one that has the hard copies sitting in a book on the counter for the customers to view? The one you consult when someone asks you, " when is ' insert title here' coming out' ? What' s that list called again?

Oh, RIGHT. RELEASE DATES. Very, very rarely, a game gets put on the list with a notation that says it' s only there for pre-order purposes, in which case, it' s clearly labeled. Now I repeat, just to make sure you can absorb this: the list is entitled RELEASE DATES. Ninja Gaiden' s first RELEASE DATE on the list entitled " RELEASE DATES" was 2 YEARS before it' s final RELEASE DATE, and there were about SIX RELEASE DATES in between.

Those are made by the f*cking store, not the developers. When a game is announced stores normally slap on a guesstimate of when they think it will come out. Most stores have conflicting release dates when a game is first announced for this reason.

This happened with Halo 2 and it really pissed me off. Everyone talked about the delays and how the game was supposed to be out last Christmas. It was all B*llsh*t. Bungie repeatedly said they have not given a release date and would not until they were sure they could make it. Nov. 9th was the first release date ever given by Bungie. All those previous release dates were made up by stores. Fathoms, your list consists of just that- retailer guesstimates. the only time a game can truely be delayed is when the developer actually says themselves the game is being delayed.

GT 4 had a actuall release date given by its developers, it was pushed back. That is a delay.

Nope. Retailers AREN' T ALLOWED TO DO THAT. They can venture a guess, but they are NOT allowed to start taking orders for a game UNLESS AUTHORIZED TO DO SO.

Developers don' t have jack sh** to say about the release of their game. That is the responsibility of the PUBLISHER. The publisher relates release dates to retailers, and it goes from there.

As for Halo 2, I really hate to tell you this, but while that bit about Christmas 2003 was nonsense, just about the entire industry believed in the April date that was given soon after. Retailers weren' t the only ones that had it listed; every major site had that April date as well. It was delayed to August, and then to November.

Good, make sure you let a bunch of people over at GS and IGN know. Because right around March, there were countless threads in those forums about Halo 2, and how highly anticipated it was for APRIL. I distinctly recall people talking about how they were going to be skipping school and work for the game, and GameSpot' s posted release date was April 14. Then it was posted as August 28. Then it was Nov. 9. Whether or not Bungie set them is irrelevant because Bungie didn' t DENY those dates, either.

And even if anyone didn' t believe it, are we really going to claim that Fable only had one release date? Brute Force? Morrowind? KotoR? Give me a BREAK. I' m sorry, but whether anyone likes it or not, the XBox has been, by FAR, the worst for game delays this generation. No reflection on the system besides that fact.

Hell, my Game Crazy had at least 3 UNOFFICIAL release dates and the Electronic Boutique up the street at least 2 UNOFFICIAL releases dates. Going by your standards Halo 2 was delayed FIVE TIMES just in my hometown.......

lotusson: You can believe what you want. You can believe that NG only had one or two " official release dates," when in reality there were four. You can think that all those other titles were " never delayed" with " no official release dates."

There' s something you' re going to have to admit, that the ENTIRE INDUSTRY, including MS themselves, has admitted to: major titles on the Xbox have difficulty hitting their prospected release dates, much more so than any other system. Btw, Nintendo and the GC has the best record, according to my research.
