We saw this at E3. We even discussed it here. I still think that while it looks sleek there' s way too much free space.

It is empty, and honestly i prefer it simple. I hope you can add a background wallpaper to it though like you can supposedly do with a psp (not having used one much). Also if you look at ps2, it is pretty empty too, nothing much to look at.

Oh well, so long as it works..

I' m more interested in the OS' s memory usage and the affect it' ll have on developers. I don' t mind the minimalist approach but this is a machine you' re supposed to use with huge high definition displays. Having so much free space just seems like a waste.

I' ve always suspected that some of the space will be used for advertizements to offset the cost of having free online play and maintaining their servers but i guess we' ll find out soon enough.

I hope that there is no cruel fate of irony on launch day for you Uumai.

Wait.... hold on..

Uzumaki

????

As for getting back on topic, Sony' s gone for the minimalist approach
with this (Where as everything else is in huge proportions, mostly numbers)

I just hope it is easy to navigate, does anyone know if the PS3 comes with custom soundtracks? I had a glitch on my 360 today, where it played custom
soundtracks on my old X-box games.. Yayay!!

Why does the menu screen look almost exactly alike to the PSP' s menu?

I think custom soundtracks will be a given. I expect a complete clone of Live with additional features thrown in. What i also expect is for Xbox Live to change and for Microsoft to take the fight to Sony adding new features (web browser/true mouse + keyboard support) and making Gold free.

The PSP' s menu can get really frustrating, having to cycle through 100' s of things to find what you want (say an image or video), so i hope they can improve upon it. Anybody expecting a fully working version of Linux will be disappointed.

its a console not a pc.

It may be as powerfull as one, but really, when it comes down to it, Dirty Harry wants an easy to understand and simle interface, he cant understand those os.

Why does the menu screen look almost exactly alike to the PSP' s menu?

Because according to sony, you' re going to be using both of those as media hubs, so it makes sense that the two look the same. I think they expect the two to interact alot, so they want to keep things unified. Not a bad idea really.

take the fight to Sony adding new features (web browser/true mouse + keyboard support) and making Gold free.

I' d love for gold to be free. Although it doesn' t matter much right now, seeing as my 360 won' t connect to the net on my current router.

Yeah I had read the article on IGN about the noise and heat. Sounds positive, but compared to what? Would be nice if they had said... it' s about as noisy/quiet as a (insert console name here)

well at least it' s clear now that it won' t be significantly loud and it won' t heat that much. That' s what 360 fanboys loved about pre-final devkits :)

It seems that PS3 could surprise everyone since we all have such low expectations since last E3.

I wonder how this whole thing will end :)

sounds great. Too bad they dont have a video of them playing it.

I hate noise, but if its as good as they say, thats fantastic news.
