It' s true that the game isn' t original to it' s core, but with so many games in existance, originality is tough.

At it' s core it' s the same old destory the enemy and save the world idea, it has gameplay that has been seen before too. The thing is most games follow the same routine. Take an existing premise/genre, and try to build upon it, improve it, make it their own. Most games these days are original for their art directions more than anything else.
I myself look at lots of next gen games and think but it seems so last gen, tell me if you please, what games do you consider original?
As for the fact of hype... Well lots of games get hype, original or not, when something is highly anticipated. For xbox, the game has been pegged from the start as a killer app, a system seller, if for nothing else other than it' s visuals.

as for my last gen comment above.... remember the naughty dog untitled game video? Apparently it was using in game assets, whilst in not fussed about the visuals in this case, what i liked was the animation, a more realistic approach (that more people are aiming for). So when i see some of these games like MGS4 (don' t flame me ) where the animation looks ripped for the current gen version, i feel disappointed.

This is why i will happily comment on any game i am interested in, regardless of format. Buying one console over another doesn' t stop me liking/wanting games on other platforms, just that unless i have the money i can' t afford them...

the only NEXT GEN game i would consider being at least half original is ASSASINS CREED.

its a new take on the stealth genre.

Assassins creed is a Splinter cell in medival time,im not impressed by it at all.

You can push down people and kick them amnd get away with it,.that stage demo was retarded.

And the assassin thing looked boring also.

Assassin creed is a game i wont be getting.

If you really think that Assasin creed is Splinter cell in medival time, then you really need a headshot or a GRENADE DOWN YOUR MOUTH.

The two are different in almost every way the only thing they share is probably genre' s but even that i not so sure about.

Splinter cell you use darkness to get the job done
Assasin creed you use people to get the job done
Splinter cell you are screwed if you get caught
Assasin creed you always get caught but pwn by escaping in style
