Late note: I watch Naruto and kinnda like it. Still I find it extremely childish, just as the little I' ve seen from Dragon Ball. I used to watch splatter horror and hardcore action flicks, which often showed a nekkid chick or two, as a child as well, all rated 15. Children are okay with blood and nudity and often think of it as cool or awesome, the Japanese censor isn' t as strict about what is okay or not to show children (odd since they censor the porno). Blood and erotism isn' t the only factors that seperate an adult story from a childrens tale, heck, even Harry Potter has deaths, murder and blood. Still, these shows are marked towards children mostly, and the theme and feel of these shows are ultimately childish as a result of this. Older audience can find them amusing/entertaining (as myself) but it doesn' t change what the shows are... Childrens television.

But Dionysius Harry Potter was made for adults in mind.

And you think kids don' t find profanity to be cool either? Did you ever have a childhood, did you ever go to school?

99% of my vocabulary among my peers in elementary school consisted of profanity. And no they aren' t meant for kids, South Park is obviously for adults but kids love that stuff. Imagine if you took south park and removed all the inappropriate aspects of it, it wouldn' t be south park anymore, thats what they did to DBZ.

The reason the shows aren' t for kids is because parents don' t want their 10 year olds using profanity in every sentence they say, not because profanity is bad for them, having a filthy mouth doesn' t make you better or worse than the next person.

Nothing wrong with liking childrens television. I mean I looooove Duck Tales (guess I' m a little nostalgic). And I' m not saying Toriyama sucks.
But when I look at his work I must say that he is extremely overrated by most people. Everything he does looks exactly like the stuff in Dragon Ball. And Dragon Ball was only good during the first half of the series. After that, both the story and the art went downhill.

Also fag, I already took as an example that children watch shows aimed for older, so no need to repeat that. It still doesn' t change the fact that DBZ and Naruto is marked towards children mostly in Japan. They aren' t however oblivious towards the older fans, as such try to keep their interest in these shows also. However, most of the older audience of Naruto and Dragon Ball are westerners, or Japanese that where young back when Dragon Ball first aired in Japan, and have since then grown up.

Both Japanese and English versions of Dragon Ball and Naruto are rated for older children, til early teens. Admitedly the Japanese version of most to every anime show are rougher and more brutal in Japan, but repeating myself, the are more loose in terms of censorship for children television in Japan. They tend to give children what they want in Japanese shows, rather than protect them from what they want (Western style).

Adult (Not PORN) anime shows air around 2-3 A.M in the mornings in Japan, whilst childrens shows air in the evenings and mornings. Naruto air in the evening, and the Manga is serialised in Shounen Jump (I think it was called) which is a magazine aimed at older children (mostly boy' s) - to early teens.

The adult anime could just be anime with concepts too advanced for kids to care about.

You' re the one who is saying that if they use profanity it automatically can' t be a kids show, I mean its about aliens and people shooting fireballs out of their ass, of course its childish, just because they say " *** you!" while shooting a fireball doesn' t make it an adult show that should be aired at 3AM. Nonetheless the profanity and gore is what made DBZ bad ass, you take that away and its not longer bad ass.

South park is an adult show because kids usually don' t really understand half of what is going on, its not an adult show because of profanity, thats not what qualifies something being for kids or adults, its the subject matter itself.

An anime/manga that relies on profanity is simply not good. If it' s not good when the profanity is taken away then it SUCKS!
But whatever, DBZ has gained lots of support even outside Japan despite the lack of profanity. But that' s because it' s a kids show with the typical ingredients to get kids interested. And that' s why it became popular in Japan. And that' s why it' s a kids show. Adults can appreciate some aspects of the series but in the end, only kids can think it' s good compared to most other productions.

South park has lots of profanity but it' s more than that. If you watch South Park because of the profanity then you' re an idiot. I guess young people watch it because of that, but adults with higher standards are not.

But I guess, as long as you enjoy watching those series: Good for you!

Alot of stand up comedians wouldn' t be 1/10th as funny if they didn' t use profanity and offensive subjects, it doesn' t mean they suck, it' s just that the profanity and offensiveness is what makes them fun to listen to, you take that away and there' s no point.
