I was never really interested in this anyway (or even know that much about it). Still, it doesn' t cost anything to download them, so I will probably give it a try when I can just to see what it' s like.

My interest level was incredibly high at announcement. It went up as concept art came up, plummetted when the first screens hit, and redeemed itself a bit in the last video.

Impressions later this afternoon.

Well that was 20 minutes of my life I' m never getting back... I' d write up a full preview like I usually do, and will be doing for decent titles like DMC4, but this frankly doesn' t deserve the time or trouble. I' ll keep it simple.

First off, this game looks something like the original Call of Duty. Your silent protagonist is an uninspired construction worker who looks something akin to the Bounty paper-towel man. The weapon design are very basic modifications of 1930s and 40s weaponry, with names adjusted to reflect the dates. The textures are abysmal, original Xbox quality or worse. Environmental interaction is nearly non-existent, even bullet " decals" only seem to work on every other object. The physics are laughable, I sent a wooden-pallet cartwheeling with one bullet from my machine gun.

Everything else is poorly cloned from the Call of Duty series. Everything from the control scheme, to the health system to the grenade indicators.

The only possibly redeeming aspect of the game is the hand to hand combat. You engage in hand to hand combat by pressing the B button, and execute specific moves based on the D-pad. The only ones covered in the demo were " Quick Kill" " Environment" and " Human shield" . More specifically, human shield is the interesting component. It' s almost functional, and compensates for the unplayable slow, or obscenely fast sensitivity options provided.

Does it save the game? Absolutely not. Does it make me wish more titles would implement it? Yep.

The Bottom Line
Don' t even bother with the demo, no less the full game. My high hopes for this title were absolutely torn to shreds. They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

They' re wrong. In this case it just sucks.

no disrespect meant Mr Nitro as you started the thread, but Eddie' s review was a little more comprehensive

Does anyone else get the impression that Nitro thinks it' s ass?

I am really annoyed that a game with a concept like this can be made into a complete waste of time, and money by the sounds of it. I am wondering if the thought process went something like.

' I have a great idea for a game.'
' Ok but we will rush it out and not give a damn about the potential buyers of this.'
' Yeah that sounds good.'

When will dev companies learn, if you have a good game, take some time and do it right.

Edited to change the spelling of arse to ass.

Alternate universe games have great potential, i cant really think of any really succesful titles like that. Resistance being the biggest hit of those i can think of!

...and apparently it' s ass.

How do you think their other game, Legendary: The Box, will turn out? At least it has interesting enemies.

That made it sound like you hadn' t confirmed it' s ass-status yourself.

You were right though... the game is ass.

That is because I did not. Waste time and bandwidth downloading a demo of a game that was guaranteed to be complete and utter ass from the outset I was smart enough to not. Herh herh herh.

Cool premise and concept art make not a good game.

Made this game look even remotely interesting, nothing but the initial trailer has.

Hmmm, high hopes for Legendary I actually have. Lets hope, being handled by a seperate team is it, because vomit inducing, Turning Point is. Hmmmmmm.

Legendary: The Box

are they the developers of this game, Legendary, according to many previews (which many times have failed), is a pretty solid game, but now that they are behind this crap, we can rest assured that Legendary: the box will be ass.
