Still haven' t gotten around to playing GoW2, but if it' s anything like the first then I' m in love.

So, am I the only one that climbed the temple in SotC?

It doesn' t matter where the upscaling is happening, it' s still being upscaled. You' re still getting ABSOLUTELY NO BETTER than 480p detail which the Wii is outputting. Upscaling can' t invent detail that was never there. If you think this is true 1080p, you' re quite the moron.

With your awesome logic, the freakin' Sega Master System can do 1080p natively.

...belay that order... ...the links working again.

Unable to express subtle shades of grey, Plasma TVs recreate artificial noise patterns and contours around objects. BRAVIA LCD TVs on the other hand, can recreate every scene with exceptional clarity and precision.

..wtf is that all about? ...subtle shades of grey?????

...i thought quality was all about a display' s ability to handle blacks and Contrast ratios??????

....ya, the grey thing as far as I' m aware only makes sense if you believe the wii to be a next gen gaming system (lol), but for a general consensus on what makes a good display, check out this thread...

I second that notion.

I can tell you what it is, just not why. LCD TVs have trouble displaying " true-black" , some of the cheaper models end up as more of a darker grey color, making it hard to differentiate between black & dark grey. The higher-end models display a truer-black color, so if you' ve got money it' s a bit of a non-issue.

It' s an issue in any price range, contrast levels on LCD screens remains the biggest problem. It' s better with more expensive models but the problem still exists. Basically dark colours look totally black, increasing the contrast makes them look grey. Either way you lose a lot of detail.

Example, low 1200:1 contrast ratio on the left, high contrast ratio 1,000,000:1 on the right:

hmm I just found out the contrast ratio of the tv I am going to get is 800:1, will that affect it much? I know its not great but I dont have that much money to spend on the more expensive models.

That contrast ratio sucks... especially by today' s standard.

If you' re upgrading from a 10 year old 480i tube TV, you' re not going to care about not having the best contrast ratio, every thing' s still going to look much better in high def, so don' t worry about it and get what you can afford.

That is so exagerated it' s not even funny.

A 1200:1 TV does NOT look that bad, awful pic, looks like someone took a pic and jacked up the gamma on photoshop.
