Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Announces New March 2007 date for European Launch of PLAYSTATION 3
No change in launch date for Japan and North America

London, Wednesday 6 September 2006 – Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) today announced that it would revise the launch date of its PLAYSTATION® 3 computer entertainment system in the PAL territories of Europe, Russia, Middle East, Africa and Australasia from 17th November 2006, as previously announced to March 2007.

Launch dates for Japan and North America will remain the same, which are November 11th and November 17th respectively.

The revision of the launch date in the SCEE territories is caused by the delay in the mass production schedule of the blue laser diode within the Sony Group, thus affecting the timely procurement of key components to be utilised in PLAYSTATION 3.

The previously announced PLAYSTATION 3 shipment forecast of 6 million units globally within the fiscal year ending 2007 is not changed.

I wonder how many units they' ll have available for Japan and the US. I mean, The states have to be their main priority right?! But then with DS' s insane success in Japan they' ll be afraid of losing ground to Nintendo.

shit shit shit , march 2007 damn sony, it' s not like i was buying a launch unit anyway but my plan was to buy playstation 3 in fall 2007, thinking that after almost one year since release, the price will drop a bit ... whho the hell came up with this news, let me shot him , let me shot him!


i think sony will lose a lot of market share in europe, this is no good timing at all, PES (winning eleven) will be released this christmas on 360, and a lot of people will get the 360 just for that game (like it happened with ps2 for some years) . march 2007... that' s far.

Aba you realise that when its indeed coming to EU there will still be shortage and very hard to get one?

360 is selling poorly in Europe (though it' s doing pretty well in UK) so It' s not that big of a loss.US is the warzone for HD systems now.

I don' t care for European launch - I wouldn' t be getting PS3 untill VF5 anyway (and that' s march 07 baby).

360 is a much better value for money and I think it will keep that title at least till 2008

It' s a good decision to put more units into US were 360 is doing well.

And EU will probably get better consoles since 1st versions of PS hardware always suck:)

If I were Sony and had 2 mln units I' d split them 50/50 between japan and US - the thing is they might have less than 2 mln units and still be able to deliver only 700k for each teritory.That' s bad.

The thing about blue lasers isn' t only Sony' s problem - it' s said that HD DVD will be very hard to get , cause there' s one company delivering crucial blue laser component for all manufacturers (and they can' t make that many).Sony changed their BD player release dates cause they wanted to produce more PS3 units.

As far as I can tell BD was a terribly bad idea for Sony -

1.it stopped them from spring 2006 launch
2.it stopped them from delivering a global launch in november
3.it could still cause manufacturing problems along the way (since HD DVD players , BD Players and PS3 use blue laser that depend on one source).

Being the only next gen console available this christmas 360 should sell like hotcakes, especially given the calibre of titles being released in the next 3 months.

we' ve head a thread about this -there was an article on gamesindustry.biz and it really isn' t selling good in EU.

But I' m not saying it can' t change (PES and other AAA games could change that - especially since it' s the only next gen HD system for Europe till 2007)

Nooooooo. I thought I was being lied to when I heard this, anyway this makes ms' s 10 million much more likely. And I thought the silence was a bit unnerving have to say europe isn' t being treated very well march?. It was suppose to bloody well launch march this year (or round abouts).

My friend whimpered to me on the phone about his Playstation being delayed, but he still thinks sony is god, even though he doesnt play any specific sony games. HE is the reason sony is doing good, a brand loyalty that Sony doesnt deserve!

What are you talking about?

It sells well in germany and UK.
Its the most importet markets in EU.
And lets not forget that no one is dumb enough to buy the core package,i for ex waited 1 extra montgh cause all premium was sold out from Dec-January to the 24th february.

And this was in a little country like Sweden.

This is such a silly descision though I mean for one thing how much are developers gonna be willing to release games on the ps3 for such a persiod when it won' t be out in europe to enjoy the sales they should be having?. I know a lot of people that don' t own a 360 for whatever reason that were so hyped that fall of man and gears were gonna be occupying their christmas. It just feels like europe gets shafted a lot these days however i shouldn' t really care cos it doesn' t really dent my plans, but as a company they really need to get themselves together and stop with the bs pr anyway i' m looking to nintendo.
