Wow, Monster Hunter Freedom 2 had a good start.
And the DS dominates the chart completely.
They seem to like their handhelds, those japanese dudes.

Yeah, the handhelds are dominating the Japanese market. The DS really boosted the game industry over there.

Isn' t VF5 supposed to be a killer launch title for the PS3? Just goes to show how crazy those little asian persons are, either that or they are really not impressed with the PS3.

Thats a very poor performance from VF5, and really surprises me. Especially when Crackdown, arguably a very " western" game is doing better. I realise they have tons of Arcades with VF5, but still, thats really low. I don' t try and understand the Japanese game market, it rarely ever reflects the games I like, or even find interesting.

Also, I just noticed they count Wii sports up there. Is it me, or is that sort of stupid. You don' t get to count a game that comes with every single console.

I always found that odd, it' s inclusion being there and all. Kinda like sega counting alex kid in miracle word sales on the master system because they are built in..

Or am I missing something?

In Japan Wii Sports did not come bundled with the console. In Japan you have to buy it seperate like any other game.

I really don' t get this separating of cultures within gaming," Crackdown argueably a very " Western" game" , genres yes but cultures no, it is almost getting to the point of where a game will be deemed a white or black persons game.

Thats why I used quotations, because thats what the industry calls these things. And no, its not like calling it a white or black persons game. Look at the Japanese charts, they obviously have different prefferences to games than us. You don' t see North America buying Pokemon like its crack, or making any game with the words " Dragon Quest" go multi-platinum. The Japanese without a doubt create different styles of games than most western developers. It' s not racist, or " regionist?" , its fact, and its widely acknowledged.

edit: I should add that the Japanese market is opening up to Western games more and more, so we are seeing less of a divide now than ever, which is a good thing. It doesn' t change the realities that consumers in Japan favor particular styles of games that are quite different than the ones that those in North America favor.

This just emphasizes how few gamers are able to rationalize buying a system that expensive. VF5 should be moving hundreds of thousands of units.

Putting that in perspective though, if PS3 was $100 cheaper I' d pick it up for sure. No questions asked. The solid titles are just starting to flow in, and if I hadn' t already bought a 360 it' d most likely become my console of choice. (for now)

Japan is a seriously finnicky market. Two almost identical titles can do completely differently depending on time of release, console, and price point, which to an extent is like the Western market, if not a little more drastic.
