I really don' t get this separating of cultures within gaming," Crackdown argueably a very " Western" game" , genres yes but cultures no, it is almost getting to the point of where a game will be deemed a white or black persons game.
Thats why I used quotations, because thats what the industry calls these things. And no, its not like calling it a white or black persons game. Look at the Japanese charts, they obviously have different prefferences to games than us. You don' t see North America buying Pokemon like its crack, or making any game with the words " Dragon Quest" go multi-platinum. The Japanese without a doubt create different styles of games than most western developers. It' s not racist, or " regionist?" , its fact, and its widely acknowledged.
edit: I should add that the Japanese market is opening up to Western games more and more, so we are seeing less of a divide now than ever, which is a good thing. It doesn' t change the realities that consumers in Japan favor particular styles of games that are quite different than the ones that those in North America favor.
