All the gameplay I' ve seen in Oblivion is dependent on how many times you hit a certain button. And although it' s better than strictly round by round, back & forth action. Final Fantasy XI still has a structured combat system, your character is allowed to attack at certain times (technically real time) that are controlled by their stats.

Is it really that fair to compare something that drastically different?

I think it' s fair Eddie, as I' d imagine most of us have a preference (even if it' s slight) for one or the other. I like Oblivion because it is basically a FPS with lots of Roleplaying elements, like levelling up your character and specialising.

On the other hand, I miss the tactical choices that are involved in turn based systems like KOTOR 1&2, and the FF system (although the only FF game I' ve played right through is 10).

I don' t think you need a turn based system for it to be a RPG game. Oblivion really convinced me of that (compared to Deus Ex for instance). I' d also be happy to go back to some turn based combat, especially KOTOR2 sytle where you just " stacked" the moves you wanted your team to do and they worked them out in real time.

Roll on more 360 RPG titles anyway. An online one newer then FF11 would be good, seeing as I don' t have a PC!

Yes, Ginjirou is telling you to get an arcade machine.

I recommend patience, Gaiden. See what games are going to be available, and make your decision based on that.

Also, when you listed Zelda, it seemed like you were considering it to be a RPG. Zelda is not a RPG. I don' t know why some people consider it to be one.

mmmm i dont know what you mean. Final Fantasy combat is dull in comparison! Might not be in the latest as they changed it, but even FF fanboi Quez agrees its boring!

Yes i do.

And on my top 15 games of all time i have FF5,FF6,FF7,FF8 and FF9 on it.

But the battle is crap, but you dont play for the crappy battle, you play it for the story/characters,but ofc i do get that the battles most be in between and bosses,btw,FF7 with its materia/limit system was kind of nice, but was to easy still...

Action-Adventure games. I don' t see very many RPG elements in Zelda.

I bought a 360 and I couldn' t be happier. I liked my Xbox, ps2 (when it worked) and Gamecube but I love my 360. Now that MS has established itself in the console market it has much better developer support then last time and its ovbvious that there will be much fewer exclusives on Sonys corner. In terms of performance its basically a wash, both have advantages and disadvantages.

The new generathion will be nothing like the last one, its going to be much closer between Sony and MS, Nintendo is in a league of its own. In my opinion both are excellent machines and if you' re willing to forgive Sony for making you buy a BR player then I say you can' t go wrong with either one.

Just make a list of all the games you want and see which has what you want. I bought a 360 because it has Halo3,Huxley, Oblivion, Mass Effect,Star Trek:Legacy, Fable 2 and hopefully Kotor 3. PS3 so far hasn' t offered any news on any game I would rather play more then any of these.

You' re talking specifically about home console versions post SNES?!

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, The Legend of Zelda: Majora' s Mask and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker are all Action RPG' s. Twilight Princess will be the same.

But the series consists of many games, and none can be called " action adventure" ...

The Legend of Zelda
Zelda II: The Adventure of Link
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
The Legend of Zelda: Link' s Awakening
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
The Legend of Zelda: Majora' s Mask
The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons
The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages
The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures
The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass

They are all RPG' s!

Well I could probably go into a detailed explanation of why the 360 is the better console of the two, but I don' t care which console you want to buy. You OBVIOUSLY want a ps3 so go buy it why in god' s name do you even need our opinion since your mind is made up already?

You enjoy that ps3 I' ll enjoy the 360.

I have to disagree there. I have never thought of Zelda as an RPG. If I did, I' d have to classify games like Metroid as RPG' s too. Zelda is an action/adventure game - how can it not be?

Yeh sorry for that zelda is not a RPG i just wanted to name as one of those games you would buy a console for.

I like the combat system in jade empire and think that rpgs such as Final Fantasy should follow suit.

But i always keep hearing from my mates that PS3 rocks and that xbox 360 is a hyped up piece of crap. Online is all that xbox 360 has going for it i hear and PS3 has better features and is gonna be around far longer than 360.

I agree, Zelda isnt an RPG in my eyes, it hasnt really got any RPG elements except the Hearts gathering, but most games of some say of increasing your health!

I think the Zelda games are great, but they are as much Action RPG as Ninja Gaiden is!

We' ve had this Zelda discussion before.
Zelda is Zelda. All games that are similar and belong to the same genre are Zelda-type games.
Honestly I don' t consider it an RPG though. That' d be like calling Mario64 or Sunshine RPG' s.

The Zelda games have big ol' " massive quests" , side quests, trading, puzzles, dungeons, a world map, character speech that doesn' t have audio, a top down isometric view...

They' re at least RPG-ish?
