Picking one game as the very best is a major IMPOSSIBILITY for me... I' ve played way too many arcade games, console, and handheld games to even be able to pick 5, let alone 1...

I mean there are quite a few awesome, memorable gems I' ve encountered through the ages... Magician Lord, Klonoa 2, Super Mario World, Space Harrier, Super Hang-On, Salamander 2, Gradius 3 (SNES), Alex Kidd in Miracle World, Virtua Fighter 3, Panzer Dragoon, Strikers 1945 II, Ikaruga, F-Zero, Pilot Wings, Super Contra, Act Raiser, Castlevania: Circle of the Moon, Metamorphic Force, etc. etc. - The list goes on and on :)

Ok, I think I can narrow this down a little more than Terry, but still just not down to 1. My favorite games ever are obviously the ones I had the most fun with, so here they are. Super Mario 64 for N64, Silent Hill 1 for PS1, M.U.L.E. for commodore 64, f-zero for SNES, and Frantic Freddie for the commodore 64. There' s tonnes more that I love, but those are probably tops.

Syphon Filter was the best game there ever was. Who could make a last boss so hard yet so easy. Also who could make a enemy so scary that you would see him in your sleep. Maybe Kirby DS comes in second.

I can' t believe I forgot Toy Commander. Now my list goes Toy Commander, Syphon Filter, then Kirby DS. Toy Commander was the best game created ever. It had crazy multiplayer, destructable environments, and tons of replay value.

I can easily name mine and that would be ChronoTrigger. Just soo much creativity in that game and a lot to do. Plus the different endings. I could just go on and on and on....

I can' t pick one and leave out the others, so I' ve made a list, in loose order:

1. Outpost 2
2. Riven
3. Halo
4. Metal Gear Solid
5. Zelda: Ocarina of Time
6. Super Mario 64
7. Half Life 2
8. San Francisco Rush
9. SimCopter

Some of these games aren' t here because they' re particularly great (when I think of a ' great' game, I think of a.... cinematic one. No, not the cutscenes, but just the overall feeling), but because they' re ones that I wasted so much of my life on, and I have such fond memories of.

My two favorite games of all time are Soul Calibur 2 and LOZ: OOT.

I love Soul Calibur 2 because of the incredible fun-factor contained in it. The multiplayer, in my opinion, is the epitome of two player fun. It has high replay-value, obviously for Weapon Master, and the fact that you can collect over 200 weapons. Plus, nothing' s more zealous than mastering a character...

I adore Ocarina of Time. It was the first game I ever played that contained such a vast world, it mesmarised me!! The characters are interesting, and the overall story and plot were so impecable. Finally, the game was so feature-rich, meaning you would always find something to do in the village or dungeon you' re in, like fishing and other minigames. It' s quite simply brilliant.

And why do you love Chaos Theory, Rampage? Mr. My posts have no back up research...

I would personaly love to say something abstract and different but it looks like I' ll have to say Mario All-Stars on the SNES. I wasted 2 years of my life on that. And for those who dont know, it a compilation of Mario games.

BTW, Jason Zeidan, I hope your " And why do you love Chaos Theory, Rampage? Mr. My posts have no back up research..." statement wasnt meant as an insult, as Rampage carries much weight around here and is one of the most respected.

And why is it the best game ever? How is it better than the original Splinter Cell? Why do you like it more than the games than influenced the industry?

Hard to say teh best but I' ll give a few different category best' s

First Person Shooter
Unreal Tournament 2004 (PC)
Halo 2 (Xbox)

Puzzle
Puyo Puyo 4 (Dreamcast)

Role Playing/a million gametypes combined into one massive game
Shenmue 1&2 (Dreamcast)
Sid Meier' s Pirates! (PC)

Realistic Racing
Project Gothem Racing 2 (Xbox)

Arcade Racing
San Francisco Rush 2049 (Dreamcast)

Real Time Strategy
StarCraft: Brood War (PC)

Fighting
Dead or Alive Ultimate (Xbox)

As you can tell a few of my requirements are good graphics for its time, insanely fun and balanced gameplay, deep multiplayer where you always have room for impovement upon skill.
These games are so good I still play them today, even StarCraft which is almost 10 years old. Only games I don' t still play on my list are Pirates! and Shenmue. But I still remember how awesome they were and get a hole in my pants whenever news about Shenmue 3 comes up.
