How big are the film downloads!!! - Dec 11, 2007 20:52
Just had a rather amusing email from a friend of mine, he is really into the idea of downloading films onto his 360, although he has just had the shock of his life. 300 in HD weighs in at.....are you ready for it.......7Gb...Hmmm I can imagine some of the poor saps out there using a BB connection of less than 4Mb it could take days to finish the download.

using 1mb (full speed 120KB/s) will take approximatly 32 hours to complete.

Ok and how often do people actually get full speed? It is rare for that to happen. Not forgetting that there maybe capping at the server side of things, so your 32 hours changes closer to a couple of days.

well i usually download at full speed from xbox live, but yeah shit might happen, anyway my point here it' s not bad when you have a 2mb. 4mb will be awesome which what many people have here i think.

Most people in Europe have at least 8mb now. It generally depends on contention and distance from the local exchange though, so even though you might have a line capable of 8mb, the further away from the exchange you are the " worse" the speed.

Last year i had an 8mb line and was actually running at 6mb. Now i have a 20mb line and actually get around 17mb.

Quez has has a 20mb line for more than a year.

TDC which is the danish company have insane prices and speeds, its expensive even for the lowest speed which is barely more than a modem.

minimum speed should be 4Mb. i have 3mb myself, id get it faster, but as it is now, i dont have to pay for it :)

7Gb for 300? thats too small for a full hd film, I suspect that there is allot of compression and whatnot, you' d be better off buying the film on bluray or hddvd!

7GB is right, when you consider no menues or extras, just the film. The LIVE movies are bare-bones packages.

So would it be correct to assume that the SD version would be about 4Gb? Give or take a Gb either way?

It is only 720p, not 1080p. Also WMV compresses pretty good while maintaining quality. But yeah getting it on disc gives you 1080p which is a lot higher quality.

How long is 300 and how many mbps does that equate to? Anything under 21 even for 720p is crap.

I have the Blu-Ray version version but my brother has a 8.54GB Blu-Ray x264 rip.

You can get 720p rips down to about 3.7GB and they' ll still look good. Anything else and you start to lose image and sound quality.

I' m supposed to have a 2 Mbps connection. They' re crooks, and I only get around a buck & a quarter down, and about 750mbps up.

I don' t know what' s so hard about delivering what you advertise. I' m no expert, but to consistently turn out significantly less than what you advertise is wrong, if not a big technical problem.

Contention is a common problem with public lines.

Businesses don' t have the same issues.
