Should we merge the Movies and Everything Else Forums? - Jan 23, 2006 04:13
Well, should we? I pretty much never look in movies forum these days, but would get more involved with it if it was accessible through EE.

Additionally, Kikizo is closing the movies site and relaunching it under a new name outside of Kikizo this year (you heard it here first), so that " Kikizo" is just games. So technically Everything Else should include movies.

All posts etc in " movies" would be seamlessly merged with EE.

Once it' s merged it can' t be unmerged!

The only " con" I can think of is that when the new movies site launches, it would be able to like to a movies-specific forum here until it' s big enough for its own standalone forum. If it' s merged with everything else though, this would not work.

Thoughts on this please...? I can' t make en executive decision all by myself on this one. :)

I think it' s a great idea, Adam, to merge Movies in with EE. Considering how much use that forum gets, I don' t believe anyone would miss it.

So when is the new launch?

adam I think you should leave the movies forum as it is so you can link it to the new website. It' s best that way.

Because there' s so many things ppl can post about in EE, threads go to the second page easily and I dun think anyone bothers to look in the second page. If you add the movies forum, there will be no chance for movie talk. EE covers a WIDE area already, it' s big enough already, the movies forum would get lost in there, in my opinon.

I say merge, but if I had my way I' d DELETE all but the most popular topics in the movie forum so EE doesn' t get too crowded with topics all of a sudden. In other words just move just the most recent and popular topics from that forum to this one, then delete that forum FOREVER!

Now where is the PORN forum?

Right but the thing is: Everything Else is hardly overcrowded at the moment. There are only like 5 or so new threads updated in the last two days or so that people participate in. Having movies combined would make this richer but would no way extend the list of active topics to the second page of thread listings... and as for the archived material, well that would be just that... archived... and out of the way on susequent pages...

The only reason I really think it should not merge is for the nwe site but then maybe the new site will deserve its own movie forum, or even just not require one initially... :S

Video games and everything else, I like it. This fits nicely with my state of mind.

Yeah, I think it' s a good idea to merge. As you' ve already pointed out it' s not like this part of the forum is bursting with life and the movie' s part isn' t exactly home to the most liveliest topics of conversation.

I actually wouldn' t merge the two. Simply put if I want to talk about movies, I go to the movies forum. It' s not like I' m forgetting about it because it' s seperate form EE, it' s just that I don' t want to talk about movies right now. NO body here is too lazy that they can' t just follow the links. What I would rather have you do is put 3 links on the top of ALL forum pages, topic pages and everything that link directly to videogames, movies, and everything else. Right now there' s a little flow chart style link system that let' s you go backwards to the forum you are in, kikizo forums, and All forums. Just add the links somewhere there.

Hmm I would go with the merge. But, maybe a re-name for " Everything Else" ?

-Beyond Video Games

Ok I' m not to good at naming things (cats name: Ochopopo. WTF?!). Then again Everythign Else does pretty much sum up the section and what it will be.

I share the same opinion as Mxpx. I like them separate.

I take your point, in that I don' t often suddently think to myself, " I wanna talk movies" - however when the topics are just there, you might find a thread of news, trailer or something that takes your interest, which you would probably not even know about otherwise. It could create a nicer, more involving EE forum.

I mean there is plenty of random crap in EE that you probably wouldn' t look at either so a few active movie threads wouldn' t make a difference...?

mxp and Rikka what do you think?

I was kinda hoping everyone would have the same opinion ;-)

Thanks for coninued feedback from everyone.

I didn' t think of it that way and Adam you are right. One day I accidentally clicked on the Movies link and was gonna go back to choose EE but my eyes caught a thread about Mission Impossible III.

So now I take back what I said and yes, merging would be good for kikizo, and in regards to the movie website, make a new forum there and don' t link to here for the beginning. Just start fresh with everything fresh in that website. I love to watch movies but as you can see, if you take a look, I don' t really post there besides the Halo Movie thread a did a while ago. Why? I don' t know...there is information there thanx to Mass X who' s always the first in movie news...you probabily feel that way too and everybody.

**One thing I wanna point out is how I like the fact that the staff gets involved with the users of this forum, this is an example, and how they check in from time to time and post their opinions on topics. I' m starting to digg this forum more and more as the days go by!

I' m with mxpx on this one. I say keep them separate and add links or tabs on the other forums. If you' re in video games, there should be " movies" and " Everything Else" tabs at the top (or on the side, or whatever).

Hey Adam, I' m not going to be upset either way, I just think keeping thing a little seperate makes the place look ' clean' . I dread the day when I come to the EE forum, some new user has joined (no offence to anyone here) and posts 10 new " favorite type of food" , or " What' s your favorite sport topic" and then ALSO posts 10 new " Who' s your favorite actor" or " What' s your favorite comedy starring Steve Martin" topcis. Your choice, I just think links make it clear how to navigate, easy to reach, and neat and tidy. Plus that way, let' s say this Kikizo movie site gets very popular(which I' m sure it will with stellar staff running the site), and people want to talk movies. They' re not going to want to have to find out if Locopuyo would rather eat the crap out of his own ass, or someone elses in the " this or That" thread. Not that anyone wants to know that, but at least we know what we' re in for when we go into the Everything Else forum.

Once again, Mxpx says what I am thinking. I like the cleanliness of the two forums. I like things organized and separate. I won' t repeat everything Mxpx182 says, suffice to say, I wholeheartedly share his opinion.

I won' t be upset either way, I like the forums regardless.

Yes but my point is, come on... what do you REALLY get out of EE at the moment? It' s pretty crap at the moment, if we' re honest - and it could be so much better. We can easily ban n000b bullshit posts once everyone is enjoying themselves in a proper VG/EE.

You' re right about not getting anything usefull, it' s more my braindead zone each morning before work!!! Hey man, go hard with whatever you want to do, you just wanted opinions. I just think as you pointed out that EE is full of crap, that it might pollute the MOVIES bit if you have a movie site that links directly to that forum.

Yeah. I kinda think that' s the point of EE. It' s like the gutter. It keeps the dirty, nasty water from settling on our nice clean roads and sidewalks.
