PS3 in MASSIVE demand according to Play.com
-
Feb 17, 2007 22:56
Link Online retailer Play.com is taking six times more pre-orders than it received for PlayStation 3 than Xbox 360 - and 15 times more than the Nintendo Wii. That' s according to head of games Gian Luzio, who told GamesIndustry.biz that PS3 is " the most pre-ordered console yet" for Play. The retailer is offering a GBP 524.99 bundle which includes first-party titles MotorStorm, Resistance: Fall of Man and Genji. " Figures from the US show that Blu-ray movie sales are outselling HD-DVD by a factor of 2:1 since the launch of PS3 and we have similar sales expectations. " In addition to the games and movie growth we expect to see a large increase in the sales of 1080p TVs to make full use of the PS3' s superior resolution," he concluded. It' s not just Play which is seeing healthy pre-orders for PS3, according to Sony. A spokesperson told GI.biz, " With an unprecedented day one shipment of 1 million machines into Europe and a software catalogue of over 30 titles available at launch, retailer feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. " Woolworths, Amazon and Play, to name a few, are reporting record breaking pre-orders and an overwhelming demand for PS3." 15 times more than Wii? That seems a little fishy to me.

I don' t think it' s fishy, given sonys supply is pretty good, i expect them to take more pre-orders. Though i think ultimately if the ps3 will suceed anywhere, it' s uk- we lap up sony games machines. Hell i knew someone who would gladly argue all night about how much the ps2 was a far superior piece of hardware to the xbox.... he used to make me laugh...

That seems a little fishy to me. Yeah, I certainly can' t see that being true. Especially since the pre-orders have been open for days and yet they' re still not sold out. If anything, I would have thought it was selling worse then the Wii at least on Play.com, either that or they' ve maybe got a huge stock allocation, I simply can' t see this being the case though. Whatever, I' ve reserved myself one from amazon.co.uk

Sony' s supply is pretty good, are you being serious uumai? It is going to be limited and I think you' ll find that it is probably people doing double pre orders so that they are covered. I doubt all pre orders will be full filled in the first release. Also with comments made on other forums I am having serious doubts that it will outsell the 360 or the Wii. Also Play are forcing a bundle on people @ £525

Sony won' t have supply issues because they haven' t had the kind of sell through rate in the US and Japan that they expected. Right now there are a lot of conflicting reports regarding stock and pricing issues, and i' m hearing that Sony are trying to force demo stands that include PSP. I' ve decided not to buy a launch unit, for reasons that will become apparent soon enough.

I was in Target the other day, and they had 5 60gig units. I almost bought one, but then I came to my senses. Only game I want to check out is Resistance. I' m more interested in the Blu-gay at this point. Memento and the Fifth Element in HD! Oh yeah!

20GB, 60GB ... I' m pretty sure its different in the rest of the world, but in Canada I don' t see why you wouldn' t get the 60gb. Its $650, and the 20gb is $600. $50 for bluetooth, 40gigs extra, card readers, and chrome doesn' t seem like too much to me.

I assume ' Nitro' that you think sony will release a larger HDD because of what MS are alledgedly doing with the 360? Who cares when you can so easily upgrade it, besides you talk like 60gb is nothing.. To me 60gb is plenty for quite a while yet.

Actually the 60gb HDD is now at 699.99$ in canada, I believe the 20gb version is at 549.99$. If I get one it will be the 20gb version, it' s not gimped like the 360 core pack. I don' t own any memory cards, I don' t care about wi-fi and I can buy a 120gb HDD for >100$.

When it launched they were $650 and $600. I guess now I might go with the core, but I got it launch day, and you have to admit, at that price, why not bother with the extra $50.

I live in Edmonton Canada, and I just got my PS3 the other week, and I paid $650 for the 60gb. My thoughts were exactly what Avarice said, why not spend the extra $50 and get the 60gb and some chrome. Anyway, when your spending that kind of money on a console, who cares about another $50 or even $150 for that matter.

Warrantees, the bane of my existence.[:' (] You could actually just tape up the strip, paint it, send it back, & none of them would be the wiser, and you wouldn' t have broken the warrantee. But, to each his own I guess. *can' t save ' em all*
