F.E.A.R. Sequels Confirmed
Monolith is preparing further doses of its action-horror franchise.
by David Adams
February 21, 2006 - Monolith' s F.E.A.R., published by VU Games in October, quickly became one of last year' s most acclaimed shooters, underlining the developer' s skills (Monolith' s portfolio includes the beloved No One Lives Forever games) and offering genuine FPS thrills in the aftermath of Half-Life 2.

While rumors of a console version of F.E.A.R. are already surfacing, today Monolith and parent company Warner Bros. Interactive confirmed that the franchise will live on in a number of sequels.

Monolith is developing the F.E.A.R. follow-ups for PC and next-generation consoles. The games are being created independently of VU Games, meaning the sequels will be true continuations of the franchise, but, because VU Games owns the " F.E.A.R." name, the next games will bear a different title.

Rather than simply port a single game to PC and consoles, Monolith hopes to create separate experiences for each platform, not only taking advantage of the expansive F.E.A.R. universe, but ensuring that each title takes advantage of its platform' s strengths.

Though Monolith isn' t divulging story details just yet -- or even whether the new games will tell one or several stories -- the titles will generally continue the story the mysterious Alma, whose hurt and rage triggered a supernatural crisis. Now that Alma is released into the world, the paranormal forces around her threaten severe consequences.

" We really want to raise the stakes for the universe and build on the things players loved about F.E.A.R.," said Monolith president Samantha Ryan. " In addition to continuing the series on PC, we' re committed to bringing it to next-generation consoles by creating separate titles tailored to each audience instead of a one-size-fits-all approach."

Monolith isn' t revealing further details on the sequels just yet, though the studio is actively hiring developers for the project as well as other upcoming titles.
