Favourite speculations...that were completely wrong - May 21, 2006 08:45
It can be about anything but has to be games based. And it' s about things that people were really adamant about and so sure of without the company' s conformation.

I had a couple in mind but can only think of these for now.

Sony

Will the ps3 cost $500?

NO. Sony' s greedy, but not dumb. Anything over 400, 350 really will completely flop. Look at the Sega Saturn. If Sony were to ask $500, people would just move to pc gaming. If you' re going to spend that much, you may as well have upgradeable parts

Finally after I' ve been rumbling on and on There is this article on engadget that says it going to 399$, so people dont worry there is no way it' s going to get over 500 or Sony will have no buyers and I' m okay with 400.

Nintendo

the Nintendo Revolution would feature a 3D projection functionality

The console will be powered by twin processors and will feature an internal hard drive. Games will come on HD-DVD format discs rather than Sony' s Blu-Ray format.

Microsoft

It is expected to come out soon with a heavy tag $600

I can' t really remember much about them because most turned out to be true with the external hd and everything.

Nintenods former VD,forgot his name, the very old guy :)
Said only a cartridge can fit a game as big as Zelda 64.
He also said no one cares about graphic.

I don' t have any quotes but the DS vs PSP speculations, where the PSP was supposed to destroy the DS, is a favourite.

Hey, we don' t about that one for sure! They have some secrets left to reveal.
...not that a projector of any kind is likely though.

Nah nintendo shunned it later they said that what they have in mind isn' t quite that but just not applied to games. But a 3d projector would be so brilliant if someone managed to do it i' d buy it in a heartbeat.

there were some speculations about GBA succesor and it' s now conformed that it won' t happen.

DS Vs PSP is the most famous debate that turned out to be useless :)

Yeah, even Nintendo said that the DS was not of the GameBoy line and that we could expect a true successor to the GBA.
But since the DS was successful the scrapped the idea of an GBA2. It kinda shows how insecure Nintendo felt about the DS and how they' re just trying to go by what sells.

The PS3 will be $400, have 7 Cells running at 2.8GHz, have 1GB or RAM, a Blu Ray drive, a 100GB HDD, and play all ps1, ps2, and psp games. Ah, the playstation.com forums are full of well informed " my uncle works at Sony" people.

I' m not sticking to the title of the thread and i' m just going to quote myself instead..

I would expect them to launch variations of the system in a similar fashion to what Microsoft did with 360 and i' d expect the cheaper version to retail for $450-$500 and the pricier model to go for about $600 or so, perhaps slightly more

^ Me, way back in January.

I could dress up for you, but it' d be pretty scary...

^ Me again...

Shit, MGS4 will be enough to convince me to spend £400 on the machine, give me Gradius and Virtua Fighter 5 too and i' ll be overjoyed

Erm, me again, saying stupid things!

PS3 is shown, complete with new controller and slightly altered look for console. Games not playable at E3, instead 100% of games shown are realtime. Sony misses Spring 2006 launch and is put back to November, but due to technical difficulties is delayed again until early 2007. Games appear in playable form at TGS 2006 and Japan goes wild in a PS3 frenzy

Me again, predicting the future...

Heard a rumour that leads towards the device having a touch screen, can' t remember the link, but it' s sony, so it' s probably true.

Uh, I always thought it an obvious fact that Square-Enix is bound body and soul to Sony; but apparently I was wrong =p

Actually, I' m thinking alot of people thought that Square-Enix' s contract with Sony would have had them give everything remotely entertaining, including bone marrow, to the Playstation house; and possibly chuck the rest to Nintendo at best (I' m not saying Crystal Chronicles is bad, and I have a personal goal of buying all the RPG FF remakes for GBA; I' m just talking about the big console games of the FF series)

THEN, it' s announced that there' d be an FF spin-off (I doubt it' ll be part of the ' main' series; more like what Crystal Chronicles is [unless they plan to do ports of the main series to the 360 in the future]. It' ll prolly be more action-oriented for the MS market)

I take it as a sign of the apocalypse.
