UMD movies going for 28 bucks! Geez!!!

February 16, 2005 - Add director Zhang Yimou' s slick action fantasy The House of Flying Daggers to the PSP' s initial line-up of UMD films: Sony announced today that the movie will be released for the new handheld on April 19 -- simultaneously with the film' s DVD release.
Daggers, which will sell on UMD for a suggested $28.95, jumps to the PSP format along with previously-announced films like Hellboy, XXX, and Once Upon a Time in Mexico. Sony expects a mix of day-and-date releases as well as catalog releases, which generally be priced at $19.99.
UMD movies play back at a full 16:9 aspect ratio. Sony promises that the AVD compression scheme offers quality similar to what consumers expect from DVDs.
Granted some of Sony' s owned movies are going for 20 bucks, but that' s still a lot for a movie that only works on your PSP. Especially when you consider you can just buy a 512MB memory stick and download a movie to it thus not having to buy a UMD ever. Or just buy the full DVD version..... Add to that games run between 40-50 bucks, and the PSP could potentially turn into one pricey investment in the future.
