Thompson strikes again! - Jun 07, 2006 01:38
You can guess what happens anyway.

This may not be very surprising, but two teenagers were arrested on suspicion of murder and guess who gets the blame... that' s right, honest working game designers! Who would' ve though?

I' ve got to admit, though, I actually chuckled a bit where it claims that Jack Thopmson supposedly said " Nobody shoots anybody in the face unless you' re a hit man or a video gamer."

Hang on a minute, some stupid kids are starting to get on my nerves. I' m just gonna go get my gun...

Yeah, we Swedes play videogames like crazy but we never kill anyone with guns. So it' s not the games. Even though weapons are illegal here in Sweden it is quite easy to get one if you have the money and are ready to meet some people with... questionable morale.
If the U.S. hade a more restrictive view on weapons then I' m quite sure gun related violence would be much lower.

I think its amusing when I see videogames become more popular with all ages and see crime rates decrease accross the board. I deteste these political figures who look for things to attack to advance their political career. They' re trying so hard to hide their incompetence by bringing up non-issues. Meanwhile taxes are increasing and services are being cut.

The sad thing is, this trend might actually spread.

It' s too bad the games industry can' t sue this guy for remarks like that.

Or at least make him step up and show some proof.

Here' s an idea Jack. How about starting a crusade to keep GUNS out of kid' s hands....oh wait, that makes too much sense.

And if he was aa active an advocate of gun control as he is against videogames, the NRA freaks would drop him like a bad habit.

I remember back with Columbine, the NRA said it wouldnt have happened if they guards at the school had been armed ;)

I think the Gun politics in the US is insane, though i loved how i could walk in from the street and try out a MP4, and Glock18 with silencer!

From my vast experience with hitmen (seen Leon a few times) I always thought they' d try to be a bit classier with their kills than to simply shoot someone in the face. Mr. Thompson seems to be suggesting hitmen are a very cowardly bunch...

So, not only has he offended the gaming community on numerous occasions for talking bull, but he' ll soon have the hitmen community after him too.

Rejoice!

great first post.. identifying a valid issue others had overlooked!

I do worry about these " politicians " in the states - I wonder if someone would ever hire a hitman to dispose of that ex army general in the states who made that terrible, completly incorrect book calld " videogames teach / taught your kids how to kill " [:' (]

As you can see by my avatar this statment holds a more personal meaning to me...for i was shot in the face not once but twice! I lost my left eye to that of a Hitman then my right eye to....A GAMER!

Obviously Dick Cheny must be a video gamer if he shoots people in the face. I hear his favorite game is Tetris with Brain Age running in a close 2nd place. Yes, those demonic games!
