What could be possible in SD vs. HD?

Could some give some examples based on 360 because if they didn' t go high def? What kind of things could have been done and how much resources is the HD consuming? Ram consumption AI and physics clutter DId they say 500,000,000 polygons for the systems? SD or HD http://www.projectoffset.com/ in the picture at the top supposed to be in engine real with cgi added heres a direct link 1600x1200 panoramic

I don' t think the resolution has much affect on polygon performance, I think it affects fill rates more. But I guess with 360 having the unified shader architecture it could probably do a lot more at a lower resolution. It wouldn' t affect AI or phsyics and probably not make a big difference in memory usage. The increased resolution of HD is definetly worth the trade off. why did you post those pictures and link....

with memory I meant with less hd textures what could be done with the other ram. or do the textures not take as much as it seems. As for the pictures I was wondering if that was supposed to be reatime engine.

textures take up a lot of space. The only thing they could really do is have more lower resolution textures and bigger levels.

I wouldn' t wory too much about what' s possible in HD or SD. Playing on a 360 that' s connected to a SDTV is horrible. It looks better than the previous generation, that' s a given, but the jump to HD offers a vast improvement.

When I finally decide to get an Xbox360 (once worthwhile games come out) I think I' ll hook it up to an SDTV for at least a week and play it like that. That way I can actually be impressed when I hook it up to my HDTV.

i have a 360 already.......its far better on hd no question about that. as for the hd ,i think hd has major impact on frames ? atleast my pc on high resolutions its beginning to crash....... but i am cool with my 360 and oblivion is running just fine even on highest res.

Could some give some examples based on 360 because if they didn' t go high def? What kind of things could have been done and how much resources is the HD consuming? Ram consumption AI and physics clutter DId they say 500,000,000 polygons for the systems? SD or HD Resolution has the biggest impact on performance - and high res textures take a lot of ram memory. If 360 was SD with those specs , it would have much more geometric detail with enormous draw distance and lightning fast load times (512 RAM would really be a lot).Every game would easily be in 60FPS and so on. The thing about todays technology is that it' s using smart shader techniqes to make realistic objects , rather than using more polygons. You can make detailed characters in SD - with lots of polys , but when they get HD textures with normal mapping and other effects they look much more realistic. The big thing in DC/PS2/Xbox/GCN Era was about polygon performance (however xbox was a bit ahead of the rest with some normal mapping and bump mapping techniques) and lightsourcing effects. This generation is all about shaders - all about techniques to make somethink look real by covering it with textures that contain information on surface detail , light interaction and so on. change you desktop settings to 640x480 and then to 720p - that' s another thing - there' s limited amount of detail you can present in low resolution because it just wouldn' t fit - in HD objects can be much more detailed (on the other hand some " not so detailed" games in HD look terrible - almost empty, like something' s missing).Still framerate is more of an issue with HD - but I would blame developers for that.

While the 360 could be instructed to throddle down and produce lower resolution draw, it' s not required and the hardware is capable of doing amazing things at full high def. As to say, most games are made to be high def, and are supersampled for SDTV, with no loss.

thanks for info ]GaNgStA[ and others I was not really debating anything about HD TVs I had forgotten that the games on the PC I played like FEAR demo when stutter terribly with certain effects and at High res but generally only Fear not Doom 3 or Quake 4 I guess I was like why they use some of these effect that take so much processing power. So No one knows about the Project Offset picture? Oh Well I assume it is not realtime. Anyone Think Global Illumination will be possible on the Gen after PS3 and Wii. How much processing does that take which I know is tremendous. What kind of Processor would that take to run it in realtime?

I' m assuming the project offset picture is a concept art type thing. It could be a screenshot of the actual gameworld though, just not at playable graphics settings. It looks kinda like oblivion.
