It' s back up, now. The GameCube was notoriously easy to hack with a mod chip. Though the system didn' t exactly open itself up to homebrew development like Xbox did, region free gaming wasn' t difficult. And that may be the case with Wii, too, if the folks at WiiKey are to be believed. WiiKey says they' ll have a shippable mod chip that contains only four wires and starts shipping on February 7th. They promise: Fully upgradable via DVD/disc (future proof, expect cool features to come) Direct boot of Wii backups (like originals) Direct boot of GC backups (like originals) Boots different region GC games/backups Boots different NTSC region Wii games/backups Supports multi-disc games Supports DVD-R and DVD+R Built-in audio fix (for games using streaming, no patch required) Stealth mode 4 wires & quick solder interface Compact design, best quality components, rock solid high speed controller Professional ESD packing BELIEVE. Really, the " boots games from backup" wouldn' t be good unless they enabled external memory through the USB port. If they did that, combined with the DVD-playback, this would be potentially awesome.

No no no, boots games from backups. Y' know games that people SHOULD NEVER EVER burn? BECAUSE THE JUSTICE SYSTEM DEALS WITH THOSE PEOPLE BY FIRING SQUAD EXECUTION.This is very BAD. I might just have to OPENLY CONDEMN THIS PIRATE COMMUNIST FILTH when it comes out. The backup thing doesn' t really interest me much, but I would pay for region free games. IF THAT WAS LEGAL! WHICH IT' S NOT! Plus, it gives me an excuse to go Frankenstein on my Wii. WHICH IS A MORTAL SIN BECAUSE IT BREAKS THE WARANTEE SEAL (post edited for content)

If this thing actually worked well, it could easily speed up my purchase of a wii.

Will you create an " Inside the Wii" thread too, Eddie? I really enjoyed your PS3 dissection, should be interesting to see what' s in the Wii.

I' ll definately be doing one once I buy one. (Read as once Corruption/Random other good stuff comes out) Although, this time you' ll all get lucky. I' ll actually provide pictures with my description, and depending on how strict we are about modding info we are here, I' ll be more than happy to turn it into a little modchip tutorial.
