Downgrading firmware and using homebrew isn' t illegal is it? It' s when you start pirating games that you' re doing bad stuff.

I agree with Ginj,i mean whats wrong with modding a console? Its when i pirate games its wrong, but i remember people modding their xbox putting in a giant HDD,ofc that was for piracy, but imagien having a 200g HD for xbox360 :P Marketplace would be even more sweet then

Downgrading firmware invalidates your warranty. It breaks through Sony' s security features so YES is is technically illegal.

Breaking through any kind of electronic security is illegal. While you' re unlikely to EVER get introuble for f**king with your PSP, i don' t think discussing it here is recommended as it would be Kikizo who got into trouble.

You agree that you will not use these forums to post any material which is knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person' s privacy, or otherwise in violation of any law. From Kikizo' s terms & conditions. Since breaking through and electronic security system is illegal, discussing the act or linking to somewhere where it' s already under discussion or otherwise documented should not be discussed here. Ofcourse, the terms & conditions also say you shouldn' t be abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, or profane either, so we would have all been banned by now if the rules were upheld. Haven' t we done all of this before? Probably about emulation though.

Billy Lodin? My Japanese PSP is filled with homebrew and emulators. I probably play more SNES and Neo Geo games than i do PSP. The Japanese PSP also has a Samsung screen which is clearer than the US and European ones. I never understood why. I might ask Terry and see if he knows exactly what is different.

I mix my real last and first names and second/last names on sites things when i reg. Our Family name last name is Petrini. so.. well i use diffrent names on the web. But the yare all real, but my 2nd name or moms last name. WTF am i talking about,i already said that i have no idea where that pic came from. Now anyone here could have a Sakaguchi ff9 game on his pc while having Halo3 as a wallpaper :P with a folder indicating that he has HL2 episode one...ofc now i just showed pic from that game but its just a coincidence. Btw i heard its fully legal to take your ps1 bios into a emu,as long you doesnt dl a BIN file for your games.

Emulated games aren' t illegal but since emulators " emulate" a system and breaking through a systems electronic security is required to develop an emulator, emulators themselves are. Lik i told you the other day though, i have almost every N64 game on my HDD and play them using Project64.

Yeah i know, but i heard soemwhere that the bios that run ps1,ps2 or DC can only be copied or exctracted from your real console it isn' t considered ilegal as long as you take it from your own console. And not dl a copied version. I do get that much in emulation is ilegal though,i for ex putted games i have on CD' s into a giant DVD,where i store some of my favourite SNES/PS1 games...

Dozens of people have reported that this f**king " downgrader" completely bricks your PSP (regardless of model).

This is a grey area. I think legally security law depends on the type of system something is. If you want to flash the bios on your computer its recomended by manufacturers, sometimes to get the best out of a router you have to use an unofficial rom image. I think that it' s ok to take apart your sony tv or hifi then technically if you bought it and want to mod it, or flash it it is ocmpletely up to you... If I wanted to smash my psp with a hammer it' s not illegal, or make it boot to an OS i wrote myself (yeah right!) then I could. So long as you then don' t use any software that is designed to refer to a legal firmware version, which you then circumvent to sidestep its security features. So flash it, run homebrew, you paid for it, it' s yours! (only my opinion!) but establish your own moral balance. I built a mame cabinet which at one time had tons or roms on it. But I actualyl went out to buy the jamma boards and snk carts for the games I loved playing, so I actually owned them. Moral justification if you will! Though I doubt sony would see you as anything as a pirate for daring to touch their hardware! Just don' t try to fool any of sony' s software products because that bit is a software licence which can stand up in court! You can' t blame them for being wary of piratism, whatever people say to the contrary, if developers sold more titles, smaller companies would survive and gamers would have more choice in the longterm. Microsoft have also mentioned limiting people running mod chips via updates on their 360' s. It' s a shame it' s come to it but, psp homebrew ppl = amazing psp pirate games ppl = scum
