Gears of War cant run on a PS3

Wow. Just like Sonic can' t run on the Super Nintendo, Hyperzone can' t run on the Jaguar, and Castlevania 2 can' t run on the Genesis. Why not? Because the code was meant for another system. The PS3 can' t run 360 code. Duh.

My god, i pity you. So you are calling me a noob based on what? If you can' t handle a discussion, maybe you are in the wrong place?

Anyways, the 22 GB in Resistance are textures and animations. I would like to take a look on your source that it' s duplicated files only. The game looks good, face it!

You really think you could play the game with 3 DVDs?

One: You need 4 since it' s 22 and the largest DVD got 5,5 GB, if i' m not mistaken.

Two: You would have to change disc every second since the textures and animations would' nt fit in a DVD.

Three: You are acting really childish, calling me a noob and all. Why don' t you get your facts, grow up, and then maybe the standards on this forum will get higher.

Jallenalle , excuse but all that you said is rubbish.

first of all a dvd is 4.7, and there is something called double layer to make it 8.5 go (not double), so that' s 3 dvd' s right??

and let' s suppose that the 360 can' t compress resistence fall of men any further and it need those 3 dvd' s, then it might work by simply putting, cinematics, levels and bonuses in the other dvd' s, NOT ANIMATIONS AND TEXTURES , that' s how it works... anyway this discution is stupid . never argue with an idiot, they can beat you with experience...

No, all YOU said is rubbish. All cinematics in the game are gameplay and the animations and textures ALONE is over 10 gb, and they have to be displayed during a combat at the same time. If you don' t believe me then: http://blogs.ign.com/Ted-Insomniac/2006/10/09/33075/

" " Sure we could have done Resistance on the Xbox360 or Wii or even PS2 but it would be a different game. How different? We' ll never know."

The game would' nt be the same. Insomniac are claiming that the game cannot be transfered to 360 because of the size of the game.

I don' t wan' t to fight everyone on this forum, I just want to share opinions.

Really JalleNalle, there is no way the game is 22gp on textures and animation, first of all, animation doenst require all that space. Textures, well that doesnt make sense at all sense the textures are generally larger in size on the 360, sure they could have a lot of unique textures, but i think that would put a lot of strain on the machinery.

Most rumours do say that Sony are telling devs to use as much space as possible!

Think for ex when you print a picture of something, without compressing it to JPEG with same quality its around 1mb big without instead of 200 kb.

Sony dev would ofc not do like we do and get the same quality but compressed.

It would be interested to see what kind of compression methods Sony and MS are using. I' m sure once that is on the table of discussion everyone here would understand you' re trying to compare apples to oranges.

You are probably right, but i find it hard to believe that the space is actually needed, when dvd9 isnt even fully used yet!

Yes,i just can' t belive people havnt complained on the 360 of lack of space, and then you hear about these ps3 games that is like 10 hours long with same graphic, that takes over 22-25gb...

I don' t get it...

The biggest difference that the extra space is going to make is not in the textures but in the sounds and cinematics. Every cinematic that I' ve seen on 360 has been visibly compressed, on the PS3 the videos will be of a better quality and generally more plentifull as well. As for sounds, they still need to be compressed as the ram is a bottleneck but the PS3 can have alot more variety in sounds throughout the game, maybe more songs overall.

This all sounds good for the PS3 but lets not get carried away and forget the onmipresent bottleneck that every console and game faces, budget. Extra content costs more time and money. There won' t be many games on PS3 where people will sit back and say wow if only the 360 had HD-DVD for games something that amazing would be possible. 99% of the time 360 players won' t be missing much by not having HD-DVD for games.

That being said, I still wish the 360 had HD-DVD (with a high read speed) built in.

Thanks for the enlightenment, i stand corrected!

Something like that could' ve started a big argument. I mean, if it was actually true then it wouldn' t have been so bad but since it' s not the argument would have been ridiculous. Anyhoo, nevermind, we all know 360 > PS3

If I am not mistaking didn' t King Majik Request A truce With the Team Sony But I may be wrong about who made the Cease fire thread

What does that have to do with this. The article says some guy said (which is hearsay anyway) Gears couldn' t be possible on PS3. It' s not true. Gears could run on PS3 just fine, ...at least when they manage to get UE3.0 running ok on the machine.

Certain sacrifices would have to be made but it would be possible. I was trying to stop and argument from breaking out. What did you think i was saying?

Yeah he did...............he also promised something else but i cant remember what.

Majik is such a naughty boy online

I' m taking you off my friends list.

One: You need 4 since it' s 22 and the largest DVD got 5,5 GB, if i' m not mistaken

You are mistaken and you sound like an idiot.

Two: You would have to change disc every second since the textures and animations wouldn' t fit in a DVD.

Why?

I think you need to have a basic understanding of " how it all works" before you start lecturing others. You obviously don' t have a clue. I mean, what the hell do the textures have to do with having to change the disc?!

Resistance is not 22GB. They dropped from 1080p to 720p with the game dropping in size from 22GB to 16GB and from a dual layer to a single layer disc.

See...

As we moved into the final week of finishing up the game we made two big changes which dropped the size of the final disc to just over 16Gb – still pretty large nonetheless. What were the changes? We removed PAL movies and further improved our data compression.

Ted Price answering questions on his IGN blog

So, you' d need 2 DVD9' s and still have some space left over. Ofcourse, Microsoft have some seriously impressive compression techniques and so the size could be reduced even more but without removing anything you probably couldn' t get it down to one DVD9.

If you had localized versions then you could remove all of the foreign audio and you could even remove to 720p " special features" like the obvious " making of..." bullshit and reduce it even more.

Ofcourse, one of Blu-Rays strengths is that you don' t need to do localized versions and can fit multiple audio streams etc on the same disc and release it everywhere without having to worry about localizing the content.

Another reason most PS3 games will not fill a BR disc is loading times. If you neglect compression in order to fill a disc, you are in essence doing nothing but mulitplying your load times.

We' ll see how rthings turn out I guess, I can' t believe its already November.

Actually all kind of compression leads to faster load speed and space storage.
Nothing negative to find with compression, people think compression leads to crap stuff or longer loading times, its not at all that way.

The months have flown by. Wii and PS3 are nearly here, or there in the case of PS3...

I' ll have Gears this month, ...AND Rainbow Six, ...AND Call of Duty 3!!!

Okay, i was wrong, someone already pointed that out. You don' t have to call me a idiot just because we don' t share the same opinion. That' s just plain fanboyish.

Anyhoo, nevermind, we all know 360 > PS3

EDIT: forgot to write something here.
I think it would be a huge advantage to own the consoles in question before judging.

I haven' t seen that information. Thank you! Still the game can' t run on it' s current form on 360. Even if you have 2 discs. I can' t seem to find the link, but i saw it on IGN the otherday, believe me or not.

Woah, you must be the first one arguing with me, that' s not calling me a jerk or idiot or something like that. Maybe you are right, but I got the info from IGN and i still can' t find the link.

I know of the article yo uare talking about, and its jsut as much a load of crap as what i posted, its propaganda, now i do think we will be seeing a lot of 360 games come on two dvd' s, which isnt necesarily a bad thing, but it would have been nice to have HD dvd in it, but at what cost?

I choose not to believe you. If you can find the link then i' ll take a look and see what you are talking about but i' ve already looked through the recent stuff on IGN and can' t see what you' re referring to.

The whole 22GB thing was propaganda, just like filling games with HD CG. Sony need to show that Blu-Ray is required this generation, but when you have games like Oblivion, and the best looking announced console game - Gears of War on a single DVD9, those " we couldn' t do this on DVD9" claims are falling on deaf ears.
