RSX might have been in developement , but Sony didn' t want to include any kind of GPU is PS3.That means that Nvidia never intended for RSX (that' s just Sony' s nice name for another GeForce) to be in PS3 - therefore it wasn' t developed with PS3 in mind.

I don' t know if they decided to go with RSX because of 360' s power - more likely it' s to speed up PS3 developement and be able to release it sooner than late 2007.

PS3 wasn' t originally going to have a GPU at all. Sony planned on using multiple CELL processors to do everything but in their tests they found that it wasn' t a viable solution.

When 360 was announced Sony went to NVIDIA and asked " how many can we get for X amount?" Sony picking up a GPU was directly due to Microsoft announcing 360 and announcing their partnership (like Nintendo) with ATi.

Sony are currently producing more duff CELL chips than usable ones and that' s costing them even more money.

So when do you think PS3 sales will surpass 360 sales? MS expects to have sold 10 million by the time PS3 is released! Do you think PS3 will outsell 360 and/or the Wii this Christmas? I don' t. I expect the Wii to come out on top this Christmas. Crazy, huh?! A recent online poll stated that people were anticipating the Wii by almost 3 to 1 over the PS3!

I don' t think your Wii theory is crazy at all. I expect the PS2 and the Wii to be pretty much tied at the top, 360 trailing slightly.

And no, PS3 isn' t going to outsell anything this Xmas, but the publicized reason is going to be a console shortage. After that they' ll do a bunch of little release spurts that will each sell out immediately. They' re going to pull the consumer along by the nose, making the thing seem worth more than even what they are charging because they keep selling out. Then next Xmas they' ll be sales giants again. This coming season is all marketing on the PS3 front. The PS2 can still carry the weight versus the competition easily.

BTW, i think that' s one big area where MS messed up, pulling out on the XBOX as abruptly as they did.

The PS3 price IS going to have an effect though. It' s going to make this console cycle a lot longer than last one. Sony going to need a lot more than 5 years to dominate the market this time around. But I' m still confident Sony will dominate... eventually.

Now don' t go thinking I' m cheering for Sony. Honestly I think they' re assholes the way they market their products. But at the same time I' ve never seen any company make the industry dance like they can. Those guys are good, and as insane as the PS3 price is you can bet they have a plan.

No doubt, but I believe that on of the MAIN reason for Sony' s dominance this last gen (their large margin of victory, anyway) was the support that they garnered from Japanese Developers. People all around the world have the utmost respect and appreciation for Japanese games. Sony' s stranglehold in this area is slipping away, though. Perhaps slowly, but assuredly.

I think, herein, lies more of a problem than a blessing for Sony. Can Microsoft offer a new system in 4-5 years (average console life-cycle)? Sure. Can Nintendo? You bet! And they most certainly will. Can Sony do the same thing? They could, but would it be a smart move? If MS and Nintendo do, then they should, but I don' t think they will. I' m probably just blowing smoke out my ass, but hey...

$600?!? That' s $600 for a video game machine (I don' t care WHAT they say!)! That' s a LOT! Is it a bargain? I think it is, because I want Blu-ray, but for the average consumer? I don' t know. Personally I like the M$ approach. You don' t pay for the ability unless you WANT to. It also positions them to be able to follow market trends. If Blu-ray wins; VOILA, Blu-ray add on! I don' t think the Blu-ray/HD-DVD war will be over in 4 years, though. Unfortunately.
