I liked the first one and this one seems to fix the faults caused by rushing the game. Most likely they will fix the slowdowns (or is it from the video?) and the shadows artifacting. Now im excited and need a Motor Storm fix! brb

The PS3 cannot do shadows well. Don' t look for them to be fixed.

That sunset in the second part of the video is stunning, and this is only pre-alpha? Consider me seriously impressed. The PS3 cannot do shadows well. Why' s that?

Why? Not sure as to the actual reason. But I' ve seen tons of PS3 games with shadows like that where the edges are all glitchy/twitchy and extremely jaggy. There probably is a work-around but it appears nobody has ever bothered.

So, I' m concluding that shadows suffer from the same anti-aliasing issues that earlier PS3 titles and developers had? (Having to pick between high-res textures and AA).

Aah, the 360 has the same issues with shadows that are clearly at a much lower resolution than the objects that are casting them. GTAIV has some kind of dithering/antialiasing effect going on but you can still make out the lower resolution shadow map through it. I don' t think it' s something that is significantly different between the PS3 and 360. Both the consoles have also tended to have realtime reflections that are rendered at lower resolution and/or lower framerate. On topic: It looks like fun, but... very slow, doesn' t it? It needs more sense of speed.

ORIGINAL: Eddie_the_Hated So, I' m concluding that shadows suffer from the same anti-aliasing issues that earlier PS3 titles and developers had? (Having to pick between high-res textures and AA). Not textures... HDR lighting. It' s not that it' s impossible, it' s just not feasable because of memory bandwidth limitations. There are workarounds though like the NAO32 HDR that Team Ninja came up with. They essentially moved the rendering costs from memory to RSX' s shaders so that they could preserve bandwidth as well as utilize MSAA.

There probably is a work-around but it appears nobody has ever bothered. Let' s face it, nobody' s going to have much time to notice the shadows in a game like Motorstorm are they?

Half the time I' m on here, I just read, and start to reply... then fall asleep, but I' m trying to get better. I' m so bad, I haven' t even looked at the footage.... let me look at that now.
