I' m a little curious about which of the two you think was best.
I actually liked the first game more than the second.
Not only because it delivered quite a shock but the overall feeling in the game was better. Shenmue 2 had a more stressed pace and it wasn' t as mysterious as the first game. Also, most of the NPC' s in Shenmue 2 didn' t feel as alive as the ones in Shenmue 1. The story also felt kind of stressed in Shenmue 2.
Of course Shenmue 2 is still the second best gamer ever made.
Maybe I just didn' t like the chinese setting. I don' t know.
Anyway, does anyone agree with me that Shenmue 1 was better than the sequel?

As a side-note, WTF is up with the forum today?!?!?!
I' m gone a couple of hours and suddenly all the hottest topics are moved three pages down, we get new post count names and the weird wish I made in another thread to have someone called Good Man with a Neo avatar suddenly becomes fulfilled (although I suspect Good Man is one of the other members ).

One big town,then another big town,then a small town and then run in the chinese countryside and meet that shenmue tree and that girl.

Shenmue2......was very much the best of the 2...there.

I have only been able to play Shenmue 1 so my opinion is quite moot here. I did enjoy it immensly tho. Especially collecting the little items.

I' m trying to convince Good Woman to get Shenmue 2 as I no longer have my Xbox. Does it work with 360 yet?

I was sooooooooo disappointed when I realised you couldn' t work as a truck driver in Shenmue 2. Did anyone find it fun to carry those crates with Duilin or Kongo?

I liked the crate carrying but the truck would have been better. However I still think 2 was better......I loved how you had to fight your way up the league book to get attention.

I never knew i could make 50-60 USD per day carrying 5-6 boxes.

You thought that was good you know how I built up my money.....gambling at the stalls with those wooden stuff with animals on them ....that was fun I won a lot.

Omg,i beated that jungle guy and got a lot of money.

Yea he pays good but I liked fighting the old blind guy....he was good and the girl even though she was high up she went down easily I thought.....you should have had a choice like in condemned to throw her off or not to throw.

Yea....but they make you think it' s dollars I swear even on shenmue one it said dollars. There' s the green currency on the screen, and the dollar sign.

I' m pretty sure it was Yen.

I liked that Shenmue 1 felt more personal.

It was as though you were in your home town and you seemed to know everyone, so yeah the npc' s were more ' alive' i suppose. and the snowy weather, loved it. I prefer the setting of the original, the second is so big that it' s not as personal, and to me not as good - I didn' t like the inclusion of the wait (like for shops to open) though, I know it was optional but still disliked it.

The end of shenmue 2 though going through the forrest/jungle/green area was fantastic... Shenmue 1/2 was one of the few games that i spend most time walking through even when you can run. When I first got Shenmue I loved walking and being able to look around too... great stuff.

The original Shenmue didn' t leave a great first impression with me. It took playing through the game and experiencing various things before I completely embraced the magic that was Shenmue. The game was really good BUT flawed.

Now Shenmue 2 on the other hand, that game was friggin AWESOME and the climax of Disc 3 gave me goosebumps!!!


I liked WORKING in the original Shenmue cause I could slack off and still get paid.. Shenmue 2 made it so you actually had to work!

How could Shenmue not leave a great first impression?
