Graphically intensive games + 1080p is a pipe dream on current hardware. You' ll find that most amazing looking games will fall back on 720p because the performance hit taken by 1080p is huge. Too many memory and bandwidth bottlenecks exist to make it feasible. The games that do output 1080p natively won' t be graphically intensive.

That' s what I' ve always said. I rather have good looking 720p games than choppy 1080p ones.

So what did they use the 25GBs for? Its definately not for textures now its (apparently) running at 720p so the crap about Resistance needing 22GBs is all a bunch of lies. But hey, did i expect any less from sony?

There could be a pretty big beast underneath Resistance' s bonnet.. I don' t know what it could be to separate it from other FPS' s...

If you followed the blog link you will see that it links to an IGN site that is displaying a blog from the developer Insomiac. Here is the link from IGN - http://blogs.ign.com/Comments.aspx?blog=Ted-Insomniac&entryid=34235 So it looks like its the real deal - all that bull$#!t 1080p talk was all sony pr balony. rather have good looking 720p games than choppy 1080p ones. Well i think 360 is doing that already so what does ps3 (gaming wise) have over the 360 then? Is it worth the extra US$100-200?

Um, no it isn' t. Play Splinter Cell: Double Agent, a recent and pretty good looking game (for X360 standards, anyway) but the framerate is pathetic and can barely keep up @ 30fps. With PS3, developers can easily have games like that running at 60fps on 720p.

I think games for PS3 can run @ 60fps, but whether there' s a substancial drop in the overall quality of the title remains to be seen. The only thing I see that makes Resistance amazig are the physics calculations.. It' s not really a title I am looking forward to to be honest..

The games that do output 1080p natively won' t be graphically intensive .....when Ninja Gaiden Sigma is shown running at 1080p, a lot of people here are gonna look soooooooo stupid... ... ... ...i have high hopes that kojima-san will pull out all the stops with MGS4 too, but i' m not gonna get my hopes up just yet.... ...generally, i think that we' ll be seeing big-name 1080p, ' graphically intensive' PS3 titles in the machine' s second wave of titles.... ...but we' ll see... ..

Meh, resolution doesn' t matter if the framerate is skippity. Not to mention, would people really release droves of 1080p games now? Later in the console life maybe, but how many of us own a 1080p TV? And we' re considered the game obsessed. Imagine the regular consumerbase.

1080p on PS3 is different to 1080p on 360. Sony' s is " actual" 1080p and Microsoft is bullshit. Microsoft say Halo 3 will support 1080p, but in all honesty i' d rather they stuck with 720p and fleshed out the visuals and had a solid 60fps. Resistance doesn' t need 1080p, it looks great in 720p, but all of the screenshots on IGN are 1080p and so can no longer be trusted as a true representation of what the game looks like.

It doesn' t matter if the screenshot is in 720p or 1080p, that just affects the size of the picture.

ORIGINAL: Agent Ghost It doesn' t matter if the screenshot is in 720p or 1080p, that just affects the size of the picture. No, they' re promotional screenshots rendered in 1080p, not just re-sized 720p direct feed screens.

Lol and you say your not a fanboy, how do you suppose they will do that with lesser hardware? OH NOZORZ! BLURAY IS SO ADVANCEDTORZ IT CAN MAKE UP FOR SHIT PARTS IN THE REST OF THE SYSTEM And Majik, I dont want Halo3 at 60 frames, the first 2 were 30, upping that to 60 would make the game " feel" different. Speaking of Halo 3, " I feel...moist"

But hey, did i expect any less from sony? It' s, basically, Neo-Geo all over again. They used to thump their chests and say, " Look! Our games are 200 Megabits!! They must be better than all the rest!" , while Nintendo and Sega used awesome compression that made their games look almost as good with one fifth the size. Basically, the developers were ENCOURAGED to use as much room as possible. Or it could be just like the Blu-ray movies, and use some out-dated compression.

Nintendo and Sega used awesome compression that made their games look almost as good with one fifth the size Lol, I don' t think so. Compare even Art Of Fighting, Fatal Fury 2, World Heroes or Samurai Showdown. These early games feature far more sprites on screen than either the MD or SNES could ever do. The reason for the increasing cart sizes was due to the level of animation and sprite detail, and only later on, more uncompressed sounds. Now look at Last Blade and Garou, nothing on even CPSII pushed quite that amount of detail, and certainly not that level of animation.

Actually Chee Saw is correct, Neo Geo developers were encouraged to use as much memory as possible. Obviously the Neo had more sprite-pushing power (everything onscreen was a sprite except one non-scrollable window), but sprites onscreen simultaneously had nothing to do with cartridge size. I think most of the Neo memory went into large sound samples. Digitized sounds were used for almost everything after the first few batches of games. They never compressed like Genesis and SNES had to. And CPS2 eats the Neo. Actually I' m not up on my CPS machines, but Capcom arcades have almost always looked better than SNK arcades. despite it' s high color palette, the Neo never really looked very bright or colorful. Usually it was a bit grainy.
