So, yeah, I' m not actually
in either of those pictures, but I took ' em.
I took the GF to go see Flogging Molly yesterday evening. An hour in 10* Michigan winter outside of the theater, and an hour waiting inside the venue was more than worth it. I' ve wanted to see these guys for ages, and we made sure we were front row, center.
The music was abso-f.ucking-lutely amazing. The first band, the Dusty Rhodes and the River band (see pics above) had a fantastic stage presence, and I met their lead singer and bassist very briefly after they went off stage. The second band was called Reverend Payton' s Big Damn Band, and was, uh, odd? They consisted of um.... this guy....
His brother on drums, and his wife on... extreme washboard? Yeah, that' s what we' ll call it.
So after the mild suckage that was the second band, Flogging Molly finally took the stage, with a Guinness in hand apiece. It was insanely loud, and by the third or fourth song the rattling in my ears had us heading backwards into the enormous mosh pit, towards the rear of the standing-room. 5 crowd-surfers, a hoarse throat, 2 *dropped* crowd-surfers, a girl stoned out of her mind on Ex, and a 3-inch-laceration on my forearm later (you haven' t moshed unless you come home with a scar) we wound up about 20 feet from the stage, singing, dancing & jumping up & down scaring the piss out of the reserved folks behind us in the tiered standing room.
It was the best evening I' ve had in a long time.
