if that is true, then it would put on par with top of the range gaming pc' s, which is nice, and what you expect for the 500 price.

The thing is that Sony still chose an off the shelf card. Their GPU isn' t as advanced as 360' s but they have a slight advantage in the processor department.

Oh, and GameSpot will only say nice things about PSP for the ame reason IGN will. They have deals with Sony for Playstation HUB.

360 and PS3 will eventually output roughly the same quality of visuals but 360 will achieve the better results quicker and it' l take a while for devs to get the most out of PS3.

PS3 HASN' T been built as a games machine and that what people like John Carmack have been complaining about. Sony even screwed up the memory allocation and have a processor that has a horrile yield (they' re making more faulty chips than usable ones).

It' ll work for games, that' s a given, but it wasn' t built for that purpose. They weren' t even going to have a GPU at all and were going to render everything using multiple CELL processors but it didn' t work properly.

You evidently have NO grasp of the technical specifications and have read into the pompus Sony bullshit about the machine having a floating point peak performance of 2 Teraflops.

It' s bullshit.

The 7 available SPE' s (the eighth is reserved and it' s not SPU) can only do single calculations with very simple data. They' re directly attatched to the PPE and so are clocked accordingly, but that doesn' t mean that you multiply 7 by 3.2GHz and add the cores 3.2GHz to get 25.6GHz! That isn' t how it works.

CELL only has slight advantages over Xenon in that Xenon has 3 general purpose cores (they do most of the work) and CELL only has one. CELL can calculate things slightly quicker by giving simple tasks to the SPE' s and letting the PPE handle the big data loads but it' s only a minimal difference.

As for the GPU. The custom built card in 360 is based on technology that isn' t even on the market yet. Microsot paid a shitload of money and even had it built to thier requirements so that it interfaces perfectly with XNA and DX10. RSX on the other hand is a slightly modified retail card and Sony picked it up in a " how many can we get for £x" fashion. 360 has a sizable GPU advantage.

Sony fucked up their memory allocation by giving the CPU and GPU 256Mb respectively that could be split any way other than all, half or nothing. RSX can render the entire 512 but it can' t just take what it needs, it has to take all of it or nothing. Microsoft made it so they had 512 that could be shared between the 2 as the developer required. So if a dev needs an extra 13Mb then it can take 13Mb.

As it stands, 360 has an additional 10Mb of extremely fast eDRAM which is specifically used for things like anti-aliasing and takes a ton of work off the GPU.

360 has more bandwidth too which is very important, and if you couple that with a faster drive (since PS3 will ship with 2x or maybe 4x) and you have fater loading times.

So for you to cliam that i' m drunk or just making things up is daft because you' re only making yourself look like a plank!

Gears wasn' t running at 15fps when i last checked. Sony have displayed framerate recently, but that' s more likely due to the games being in early stages of development.

Magnus Högdahl: The PS3 will have a content size advantage with blu-ray and a CPU advantage for titles that are able to utilize a lot of the SPUs. The Xbox360 has a slight GPU advantage and its general purpose triple-core CPU is relatively easy to utilize compared to SPUs. I expect that it will be near impossible to tell Xbox360 and PS3 screenshots apart.
