62,135 Xbox 360' s were sold on it' s Japanese launch day, with the other half of the 159,000 units shipped to retail staying on the shelf, but 29,891 copies of Ridge Racer 6 were sold.

Don' t start making excuses for Sony.

What I mean is, That not many Jap gamers are buying the games before buying the ps3, maybe that explains why their is such low sales.

Dunno. It' s not good for developers though and it' s not good for Sony. I mean, if you had a game planned for the US launch and yo saw software sales like that, surely you' d consider delaying it until the install base was larger?!

On Friday the machine launches in the US and we' ll get a better idea of how things are going, especially seeing as Sony are launching with the exact same number of console (400,000) that Microsoft had for the US launch.

What i find amusing is that RR6 sold better than RR7 (IN JAPAN!) and yet 20,000 more PS3' s were sold. Software has to carry the hardware at launch. Sony need to make money from software royalties to keep themselves out of the red.

The japanese don' t spend as much money per person on videogames as we do, that plus the price of the ps3, well this doesn' t surprise me. Wait and see how much software is sold with Wii. I hope no one here comes to the conclusion that Exite Bike is better then Resistance Fall of Man.

Maybe the same excuse they used for the lousy sale of PS2 games at launch can apply here as well.. Maybe Japanese gamers are busy watching Blu-Ray movies :p

Yeah all of a sudden Japans culture doesn' t seem invincible, but it' s probably just because Resistance is the only decent Launch title for PS3.

Typicaly the Japs love their Gundam, maybe in the long run, things might return to normal

Maybe after having spent so much money on the console to make sure they have one, and the games will come with the next pay check...

I knew the ps3 launch was gonna be pretty sad, but this, this is just depressing

Ouch, only five games for the Japanese launch and these 5 titles have sold poorly

BTW Majik i' m not sure why Resistance has sold only 16000 and makes up 40% where as ridge racer sold 27000 and makes only 38%??? Have your sources got maths problems or do the precentages represent something else (like software sold compared to actual stock)

Poor launch unit numbers, poor selection of titles, high unit price, this is only gonna hurt sony in the long run. Japanese gamers aren' t gonna be too impressed with this farce of a launch. THey just left the door wide open for microsoft and more importantly Nintendo to take the Japanese market.

well if this is the case then this is extremely bad news to sony. IF sony needs to sell 20+ games to make up the huge losses they inccur for each ps3 sold then there gonna be in a world of hurt sooner rather then later. Also remember sony cut the price of the core pack and included HDMI as well, thats means even more losses, and the Wii doesn' t hit Japan until Dec 2nd.

well graphics wise no way in hell but gameplay - we' ll see, but from most accounts excite TRUCK is extremely fun to play. Plus at Wiis low price, so many dissapointed sony fans (without ps3s or because of the small selection of games available) and a Zelda game at launch i don' t think it will be a major problem.
