PS3 Price Cuts Cometh...

" We are re-examining our [PS3] budgeting process in terms of pricing and volume. Sales assumptions change and the market is competitive. We are in the midst of revisiting our strategy for the PS3." LINK

Do you think it will be that long for the cuts to take place? I think closer to end of summer beginning of Autumn (Fall). They might do it to divert hype from the Launch of H3?

According to this link, Sony have no intentions of cutting the price. Which is a shame. " PS3 prices and shipment plans for the future should be determined by market trends and competition. Sony currently doesn' t have any specific plan to cut the PlayStation 3' s price,"

Admiting a price reduction is coming would result in even fewer sales between now and then.

Even fewer sales, is that possible!? Your initial quote was corporate-speak for ' these PS3s are not flying off the shelves as well as we thought (or as much as the wii) the only way to change this is to slash the price' . Personally I don' t think a small price cut is going to have any major change on sales for at least 6 months.

Yes I think you are right, but it doesn' t appear to be making much of a difference.

I believe the UK retailers are taking a hit in their own pockets in a bid to shift some stock. That' s totally different to an official price drop.

Personally I don' t think a small price cut is going to have any major change on sales for at least 6 months. I' d get it if it dropped $100 & provided VGA support. This is half the battle for me. Granted I' m not expecting $100. I could see a $549.99 PS3 though.

There' s a deal now at my local EB games trade in 10 games and be able to buy the 60GB PS3 for 399.99cnd, normally 659.99$. That' s an average of 16$ per game before tax, or close to 30$ if pay tax on the 399.99$ instead of the original price. It might be worth it for some people.

Maybe the price cut should be around October- November this year. Or could be right after summer between $50 or $100 difference.

I could find 10 cheap sports games to trade in. In fact, I could probably buy 10 games from them, sell them back, & still save tons. I' ll be seeing if my local store is doing the same.

I can walk into a few places round Leeds and buy a PS3 for £400 or even a bit cheaper than that online. The fact remains that if sales of the PS3 don' t increase soon Sony is going to have to do something to get people to buy the PS3. They can' t even rely on GTA anymore... GTA 3 was the reason I got a PS2 back in the day but now I' ve a 360 I don' t need anything else to enjoy GTA IV

Sony never relied on GTA, the PS2 had the most games in last gen by far.
