Following up on the report that the PLAYSTATION 3 would see a $100 price cut taking place the week after E3 2007, GameDaily has confirmed with " a merchandising manager at one of the world' s biggest retailers" that the 60 GB version of the PS3 will indeed drop to $499, starting on July 12, one day after Sony' s E3 press conference. GameDaily also reports that the new price is indeed indicative a retail-wide price drop, not a Circuit City specific sale, as a handful of speculators have posited.

Nothing offical yet, but it makes sense especially when Sony know the price is high and its a day after E3.

LOL, yeah right. As if we' re going to see a 200$ price drop. Besides you can bet your ass that whenever the PS3 drops in price the 360 will follow suite as soon as possible. That' s if MS doesn' t get the price drop first.

I' ve seen PS3' s bundled with Motorstorm and Resistance for £425. In March the console itself was retailing for £425, so they' re just giving free games away with the machines.

About time for a price cut, however I don' t think this is really enough for the general masses. $200 would have been much better if they could afford it, and to wait until games start coming out. There is still little to nothing on the system that is going to seel it - even with $100 off the price tag.

A Ninja gaiden rehash? less than a handful of exclusive games that are decent? exclusives that run better (and come out sooner - in europe at least) on the 360?

Seriously though, that' s great news. It doesn' t mean that I' ll be buying one new, but when you drop the new price, the used goes down as well, putting it in the $425 range, which was my first prediction for the box back before E3 06 (and coincidentally the highest price I' d be willing to pay for one).

TOKYO (Reuters) - Sony Corp. has no plans to cut the price of its PlayStation 3 (PS3) at present to pep up demand and counter surging sales of Nintendo' s rival game console Wii, Sony' s president said on Friday.

Sony President Ryoji Chubachi also said in an interview that operating profit margin at its mainstay electronics unit, which makes hot-selling Bravia LCD televisions and Cyber-shot digital cameras, was likely to exceed its 4 percent target for the current year to March 2008.

" At present we have no plans," Chubachi told Reuters when asked whether Sony had any plans to cut the PS3 price.

Well then if it' s true then I will use my fiances Circuit City discount on top of that and may actually get one...dunno what I' d be gettng it for but owell. maybe somthing at E3 will sway me.

You act like them being forced into extending the warranty due to faulty merchandise is a good thing.

Chevy still offers longer warranties than Honda or Toyota, but it doesn' t mean that its cars are better. In actuality chevy' s are crap, and will break long before the Hondas or Toyota' s that have the shorter warranty.

I' m not saying the 360 is like a chevy, but I' m saying a warranty doesn' t make it a better console, it just means you won' t get fucked over for 3 years, which is what I expect with every console. After all, the only consoles I' ve ever had break were a 4 year old ps2 and an xbox I left on the floor running for a long time. Oh, and a NES that my cousin used as a stool when he was a toddler, it still worked from time to time though.
