Buying a console in the uk is akin to being muged in the street .

or raped in prison.

Actually LCD do burn in they use the liquid crytals hence the name LCD. The picture also fades and has massive discoloration i have seen it in a video and then you have the ghosting image because LCD' s don' t refresh, but they are getting pretty good at changing that. Also the problem with LCD is you shouldn' t change it' s native resolution because it will mess up the quality but DLP is digitally precise light and according to the thigns i have read the picture will never fade or die even though heat, humidity, vibration etc..

I have become a big fan of DLP since it was introduced plus the movie theater projectors are changing the way peopel watch movies. Normal old fashioned Reel projectors have scratches, tears, and if there is a snag the film will burn they also use like 16.7 million colors. But DLP has no scratched prints (i worked at a theater and the reels are HUGE, heavy, and bulky and tear and scratch easy) and use around 35 trillion colors. I am goign to go see Star Wars Ep 3 in DLP since we have one projector in DLP in Phoenix area but it' s kinda far from where i live and my friends have been busy so i haven' t gone yet but i am going alone if i have to. Not a bad choice for my first digital movie huh? hehe

The PSP is $250, right? The PS3 is like ten trillion times better than that (from what we' re currently being fed by Sony, anyway) so I don' t see how it could be a measly $299.

But remember, Sony did the same thing with the PS2, saying it would have graphics on par with the movie Toy Story. Of course, that ended up being nowhere near the case. So we' ll have to see just how much Sony is exaggerating their specs, and you KNOW they are.

I wanna wait and see actual game footage on the PS3. Who' s at E3 right now? Is it Terry or Adam, have you guys seen the footage yet? If the PS3 is better than Xbox360 than let' s see how much it can really boast.

I' m almost sure I read somewhere that the ps3 features 256 MB system RAM at a ridiculous operating speed and 256 VRAM @ 700 Mhz. Could be wrong

yeah dismiss, the PS3 is using 256mb of system and 256mb of video ram.
Still all this on paper specs and willy waving wont count for much right now, if the PS3 doesn' t get released till Q2 2006 it could be quite different by then.

Hate to sound like an anti Sony fanboy but, ' Emotion Engine' anyone.

With all the otherwise optional accessories included with the PSP it' s no surprise that Sony would price it the way they did, but if Japan is any indication, a Standard pack, one that includes just the PSP, battery, and adapter would/will cost under $200

I think Sony' s pretty smart when it comes to pricing their consoles, they realize that anything above the $299 price tag isn' t very mass market friendly and until they release pricing info that states otherwise I firmly believe $299 will be the price of the PS3 :)..

They' ll take a bath on the PS3 hardware as they did with the PS2, and will no doubt make it up through software sales.

We' re both in LA (Los Angeles, not Louisiana) but Adam' s the one attending the Pre-E3 Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo press conferences. :)

I agree with you on what you said about all the sound channels Joe, but I never specified dolby 5.1, just 5.1. They list DTS, but not DTS ES. NOw if they are willing to go all the way to make this thing able to output 1080p, why not build the things sound for the future as well. There ARE reievers out there than can handle 7 individual channels of sound if someone would just make something that gives them those channels to play.

Funny how the right angle can make all the difference in the world. Barf. This angle makes it look like an old flying saucer from a 1950' s movie. Either that or a PS2 with a beer gut. And I couldn' t get a good impression of the size of the thing before, but it' s looking pretty bulky. At least the 360 has somewhat flat surfaces. I couldn' t even put a game on the top of this thing without it sliding off the back.

How can they build a receiver that handles a sound format that doesn' t exist? The only way would be with discrete inputs for each channel. But nothing can be encoded with 7 discrete channels. I have 8 speakers hooked to my receiver, but it is not capable of true 7.1. At least I don' t think it is (haven' t checked to see if there are discrete inputs for each speaker).

Also, the PS3 can do 1080p, but I don' t think it is standard. At the press conference they said that some of their demos were running in 720p.

No no,not saying taht 1080p is standard, that would be really far ahead, just that it can do it. And yes, what I mean is that there are recievers that can handle 7 discrete channels, just that nothing outputs 7 discrete channels. It' s akin to making a HD tv be able to play 1080p. Nothing is filmed in 1080p, but one day when we' ve all got our bluray/HDDVD hybrid players playing super hi res DVD' s, we' ll be thankful we' ve got the the TV that can do it. I' m not doubting your knowledge of sound systems Joe, It' s obvious you know a lot, I' m just saying it' s silly to plan ahead for the future of video, and then settle for the status quo in the sound dept. Even despite the fact that there are no games/movies out there programmed with 7 dicreet channels, why no DTS 6.1? There are movies out there with 6 discreet audio channels, and games should be following, and surpassing.

Here' s a neat link I found basically takling about what both of us have been saying that nothing out there outputs 7.1, except for it says some new computers.
Some computers can output discrete 7.1

ok, this is what i think. I think the design is good, nothing wrong with it, just hope that hump on its side dosent come out too much... I like the idea of 7 CONTROLLERS! geez, i only wanted 4. how can you get 7 screens on one tv?. I like the fact that you can use the psp as an controller, the controller design itself is awfull, but that will change, look at the ds last year. I hope you can still connect your old ps controllers into it. But by the specs, looks and quialty of the console, i' d say the ps3 has outdone the 360 and i will diffently buy one.
