Sooo...how about those game footages? Even though the controller looks downright weird. If you were to actually hold it, it would probably be very comfortable.

Oh Gawd SONY, what the f*** is up with that d-pad design?? They' ve used it with all of their hardware units so far (PS1, PS2, PSP) and it sucks! CONNECT the damm D-pad already!!lol... Nothing worst than trying to play 2D fighting games and 2D shooters with Sony' s d-pad...

con-caved xbox360 con-coved PS3...? Maybe they meant to be with eachother...and maybe when the revolution comes out well see some transformer/power ranger shit and theyll make " super genki kick ass robo console 1080 backside!!!"

Anyways can someone help me find a side by side comparison of specs thus far? That site above is tabbed but i cant find a decent list for the 360.

I never thought that I would appreciate the dual-shock 2 controller until now. The PS3 pad seriously needs rethinking. Anyone who likes the PS3 pad does not deserve to be alive. It' s that simple.

The two HDMI outputs is really interesting. Looks like everyone will need to get not one but TWO HDTVs!

I had a strong feeling the PS3 was gonna kick the Xbox360' s ass in some ways and apparently it does according to those specs. I wonder why Sony didn' t list the polygon pushing power of the PS3 though...

Because it goes way beyond polygons! It' s REAL! Just like the 3DO. Real.

Don' t be fooled by the triple processors of the 360. That doesn' t mean " 3 times as fast" . It just means " better delegation of the tasks when programmed properly which may be hard to do" .

So PS3 is " waaay stronger" or " stronger but a lower price could save 360" ?

I also know its all about the games and making a super console would be useless for the first few years til developers can fully tap into them. Ahg Hopefully when E3 is all said and done Ill be able to choose a console with less concern.

Im a Xbox whore right now but doesnt mean I wont jump to a new pimp with no regrets.

I do not plan on playing games with a fu$#ing boomarang in my hands. 7 boomarangs even worse. Seriously though, that controller looks like trash. Bluetooth is great, and the fact that you can hook up 7 is even better. I notice it does 1080p. Wow. Although I don' t even know of many HDTV' s that do that, a lot don' t even do 720p, only 1080i. Built for the future I guess, makes sense. And what the hells with only 5.1 surround!!! Sorry, but most recievers being sold these days are 7.1, and while I' m aware that nothing out there really uses the 7th channel, why not at least 6.1!!!! If Video games are supposed to be surpassing hollywood as the number 1 form of entertainment in the world, why the hell are we behind Hollywood in the sound dept.

Hey the new TV i want coming out either June or July does 1080p and has a native resolution of 1920x1080p with a contrast ratio of 10,000 to 1 along with other Samsung DLP technologies and NO BURN ins liek plasma and LCD' s do. Check out the HLR6168w and the HLR6768w. The smaller 61" one costs about $4000 and the 67" should be around $6500 which is really good price for everything you get compared to $10-15K for plasma and LCD and DLP is newer and better technology. The image never fades. I can' t wait
Plus the HLR6768W won Cnet.com Best in show at the CES.

As far as i know LCD monitors work by blocking light, so it is literally impossible for burn-in to occur on the screen. And since light is generated from a source external to the display screen itself, images cannot be permanently or even temporarily retained.

And what the hells with only 5.1 surround!!! Sorry, but most recievers being sold these days are 7.1, and while I' m aware that nothing out there really uses the 7th channel, why not at least 6.1!!!!

Ummm.... where to start....

Dolby Digital is only capable of 5.1. That is the way it is designed. There is a format called Dolby Digital EX which adds a back surround, but it is not discrete. It is matrixed from the right and left surround. This could be known as fake 6.1, and the Xbox 1 does this easily. Dolby Digital Pro Logic II (or something retarded like that) actually makes the two back surrounds " separate" so the paning effects are a bit better. Once again this is all matrixed, and could be known as " fake 7.1" . It is not much more impressive than fake 6.1.

DTS also has a fake 6.1 option that can also be fake 7.1. But DTS-ES Discrete actually has 6.1 discrete, individual channels. It is real. There is nothing that says the PS3 can' t do DTS-ES Discrete. It only says " 5.1" by Dolby. There is no discrete 7.1 format in existence. It is just marketing jargon created by people who are trying to sell you home theater equipment. They figure if you have 3 mains, 4 surrounds and a subwoofer, you have 7 physical speakers in addition to the sub, so it MUST be 7.1. If that is the case, then most movie theaters would be 23.4 channel sounds, since they have at least 6 surrounds on each wall, 4 subwoofers, and 5 stage channels (with SDDS). But in reality you are listening to 5.1 channel or fake 6.1 at the very most in a movie theater. Some SDDS releases are actually 8 channel, with 5 separate screen channels. So the most you can get for the home is 6.1, or fake 6 or 7.1. 5.1 is more than fine.

So PS3 is " waaay stronger" or " stronger but a lower price could save 360" ?

I think its safe to say that with the amount of tech sonys put into the ps3 it will probably be the most expensive. Best guess about £450 xbox 360 £350

Actually LCD do burn in they use the liquid crytals hence the name LCD. The picture also fades and has massive discoloration i have seen it in a video and then you have the ghosting image because LCD' s don' t refresh, but they are getting pretty good at changing that. Also the problem with LCD is you shouldn' t change it' s native resolution because it will mess up the quality but DLP is digitally precise light and according to the thigns i have read the picture will never fade or die even though heat, humidity, vibration etc..

I have become a big fan of DLP since it was introduced plus the movie theater projectors are changing the way peopel watch movies. Normal old fashioned Reel projectors have scratches, tears, and if there is a snag the film will burn they also use like 16.7 million colors. But DLP has no scratched prints (i worked at a theater and the reels are HUGE, heavy, and bulky and tear and scratch easy) and use around 35 trillion colors. I am goign to go see Star Wars Ep 3 in DLP since we have one projector in DLP in Phoenix area but it' s kinda far from where i live and my friends have been busy so i haven' t gone yet but i am going alone if i have to. Not a bad choice for my first digital movie huh? hehe

The PSP is $250, right? The PS3 is like ten trillion times better than that (from what we' re currently being fed by Sony, anyway) so I don' t see how it could be a measly $299.

But remember, Sony did the same thing with the PS2, saying it would have graphics on par with the movie Toy Story. Of course, that ended up being nowhere near the case. So we' ll have to see just how much Sony is exaggerating their specs, and you KNOW they are.

yeah dismiss, the PS3 is using 256mb of system and 256mb of video ram.
Still all this on paper specs and willy waving wont count for much right now, if the PS3 doesn' t get released till Q2 2006 it could be quite different by then.

Hate to sound like an anti Sony fanboy but, ' Emotion Engine' anyone.

With all the otherwise optional accessories included with the PSP it' s no surprise that Sony would price it the way they did, but if Japan is any indication, a Standard pack, one that includes just the PSP, battery, and adapter would/will cost under $200

I think Sony' s pretty smart when it comes to pricing their consoles, they realize that anything above the $299 price tag isn' t very mass market friendly and until they release pricing info that states otherwise I firmly believe $299 will be the price of the PS3 :)..

They' ll take a bath on the PS3 hardware as they did with the PS2, and will no doubt make it up through software sales.

I agree with you on what you said about all the sound channels Joe, but I never specified dolby 5.1, just 5.1. They list DTS, but not DTS ES. NOw if they are willing to go all the way to make this thing able to output 1080p, why not build the things sound for the future as well. There ARE reievers out there than can handle 7 individual channels of sound if someone would just make something that gives them those channels to play.

Funny how the right angle can make all the difference in the world. Barf. This angle makes it look like an old flying saucer from a 1950' s movie. Either that or a PS2 with a beer gut. And I couldn' t get a good impression of the size of the thing before, but it' s looking pretty bulky. At least the 360 has somewhat flat surfaces. I couldn' t even put a game on the top of this thing without it sliding off the back.

How can they build a receiver that handles a sound format that doesn' t exist? The only way would be with discrete inputs for each channel. But nothing can be encoded with 7 discrete channels. I have 8 speakers hooked to my receiver, but it is not capable of true 7.1. At least I don' t think it is (haven' t checked to see if there are discrete inputs for each speaker).

Also, the PS3 can do 1080p, but I don' t think it is standard. At the press conference they said that some of their demos were running in 720p.

No no,not saying taht 1080p is standard, that would be really far ahead, just that it can do it. And yes, what I mean is that there are recievers that can handle 7 discrete channels, just that nothing outputs 7 discrete channels. It' s akin to making a HD tv be able to play 1080p. Nothing is filmed in 1080p, but one day when we' ve all got our bluray/HDDVD hybrid players playing super hi res DVD' s, we' ll be thankful we' ve got the the TV that can do it. I' m not doubting your knowledge of sound systems Joe, It' s obvious you know a lot, I' m just saying it' s silly to plan ahead for the future of video, and then settle for the status quo in the sound dept. Even despite the fact that there are no games/movies out there programmed with 7 dicreet channels, why no DTS 6.1? There are movies out there with 6 discreet audio channels, and games should be following, and surpassing.

Here' s a neat link I found basically takling about what both of us have been saying that nothing out there outputs 7.1, except for it says some new computers.
Some computers can output discrete 7.1

ok, this is what i think. I think the design is good, nothing wrong with it, just hope that hump on its side dosent come out too much... I like the idea of 7 CONTROLLERS! geez, i only wanted 4. how can you get 7 screens on one tv?. I like the fact that you can use the psp as an controller, the controller design itself is awfull, but that will change, look at the ds last year. I hope you can still connect your old ps controllers into it. But by the specs, looks and quialty of the console, i' d say the ps3 has outdone the 360 and i will diffently buy one.
Change is inevitable. Except from a vending machine.
