FPS games can hold their own True, the only reason I made this thread was in light of another thread citing poor sales of Crysis (probably was the US sales numbers). One thing to consider about PC games sales is that US is a poor indicator as America is more skewed towards console gaming compared to Europe. Another thought I have is that maybe PC game sales have a more even spread across time after release.

Both 512mb of Vram need to have identical data loaded so they can work in sync. You could probably run the game on low-medium. Even on low the game looks great. Recently they added a patch that fixes a lot of bugs and helps with performance. I plan on getting it... Although there are tons of games coming out in March, maybe you would be better off waiting for those. It depends on what kind of game you' re looking for I guess.

Speaking of that, is Crysis worth it with just a directx 9 card? Yes. DX10 is overrated and Majik posted a screen fest earlier showing DX9 and DX10 versions of the game and they looked almost the same.I played it on DX9 with my 8800GTX (Vista = thanks but I' ll pass) and the game look really cool! note: its 7950GX2 not 9750GT-X2.

DX10 is bullshit. Even though i can run it in DX10 on my machine, I switched over to DX9 anyway because it yields a performance increase as well as looking no different. There are some options that aren' t available in DX9 by default, but you can tweak the config file to enable them and get almost identical results.

ORIGINAL: Nitro DX10 is bullshit. At the moment it' s nothing more than a tool used to market games and one-up the competition. In order for any benefit to be seen from DX10, we need games to be built for it from the ground up natively, not simply tacked onto an existing DX9 base. Despite what Crytek say, Crysis is not a true DX10 title. Nothing is, nor is anything within the near future (that I can see). I think it' ll be another couple of good solid years before we' ll see anything ' truly' DX10. Not enough DX10 hardware or software (ie Vista) out there to justify alienating the majority of the market. Until then we' re just going to have to put up with sub par DX10 performance for just about everything.

I don' t think DX10 really has any functions for better graphical effects over DX9, it is just more efficient.

Can you get the translucent tree leaves with the tweaks? Thats the main difference I' ve missed. That and the extra smoke detail.

Sure... Wow what a massive guide! Thanks. I don' t think DX10 really has any functions for better graphical effects over DX9, it is just more efficient. Now they are pushing DX10.1 but i' m too busy/fed up to care what it has.
