Damn reference/in-game imagery, confusing me at first glance!!!

But is it me, or are the 3D artists, just rubbish at copying???

It looks good, but they are inaccurate representations of their real-life
counterparts...

dude how could you think that way, if those artists could creat such a realistic enviroement , then i' m sure they coul match those details exactlya s they are if they wanted to, may be it' s done on purpose or for different reasons , certainly not because of the artists.

I don' t think they' re really trying to get the exact placement of the river stones duplicated. Just trying to get the overall appearance of the location to be similar, and pretty realistic.

Actually that river picture was the most impressive to me. Things like the cafe can easily be done with photo textures. The patterns of the foam and currents in the river are very complex and constantly in motion.

I can' t believe people here are only beginning to understand the significance of DX10.

Theres a reason consoles use to look so good compared to PC considering the hardware. Ex (Xbox can run Doom despit its hardware being from the stone ages). Computers have been crippled with former variants of DX, mainly due to the fact that they had to carry legacy compatablility. Add to that change Shader model 4 along with geometry shaders, a year from now we' ll be seeing some pretty sick PC games.

If consoles are wolves, the PC has been a bear tied down. With DX10, the Bear will be unleashed.

If I' m not mistaken, Crysis is not a full DX10 game. Most of it is still DX9. Crysis still carries legacy compatibility with DX9. I' ve always known DX10 will bring some massive improvements with it, but we' re really only seeing the very tip of the iceberg here. The next couple of years will see PC games start to further push ahead - as always.

The bear may still be tied down, but he only needs to look at the wolf for it to flee in terror.
