Not really, but among Americans, " Yankee" generally refers to someone from the North (northeast), and people from the South (southeast) call Northerners " Yankees" as something ranging from a playful dig to a vicious insult.

Not really. It' s kind of like Canuck. If it' s a fellow american, it' s considered to be a compliment, or a positive thing. Kind of has a cocky connotation. Where does limey fall on the offense-o-meter for folks in the UK?

its a semi-derogatory term used by yanks to describe Brits, but is completely pointless because 95% of the UK has never heard of the term (it derives from when British navy ships stored limes and other citrus fruit on board to ward off scurvy (when we used to rule the world).
