The " WTF" moment of the day. - May 31, 2005 18:27
Newsbit taken from The Magic Box:

- TheStreet.com reported that Midway will have launch titles ready for the PlayStation 3 launch in US. However the company will not have any launch titles for Xbox 360, the reason is that the install base is too small.

I' ve got a bald patch on the top of my head from scratching the same spot for too long after reading this.

It' s obvious, so far the Xbox360 has an installed user base of zero. Although that number is about the same number of games that a company like Midway actually sells in a year, they have set their sights higher and are looking towards the double digits. Also, as Kutagari has said, the Playstation 3 is not for games. Therefore it may sell a few dozen or so units (because EVERYONE hates a game machine). That is why Midway is making this bold move.

I think Midway is simply following Microsofts lead. With X-box 360 having a user base of 0 so far(they' ll probably pick it up in the 4th quarter when they raise the price from 360 to 370 for obvious reasons of 370 being better than 360) Midway is waiting till they have a user base of more than 0 because more than 0 is better than 0. As for the whole support of PS3, I can only assume Ken Kutagari has promised Midway his anal virginity if they' ll support his system.

Ok, honest opinion from me here is that this is just bad business from Midway. I think any company going exclusive is just poor business. There' s no reason to make system exclusive games anymore unless they are 1st person, or the game will not recoup the expenses, and unless it' s a very small niche title, that' s likely not going to be the case.

With increasing development costs making system exclusive games isn' t a great road to go down. However, I can see if you were to make system exclusive content (or at least make a game for one system and see how it sells before considering porting it to a rival system) it would make a lot more sense to support the PS3.

I' m pretty sure Midway came out and clarified that they are indeed supporting the 360, they simply will not have any games ready for the 360 by launch. No biggie. It' s not as if every developer will have a game ready by then.

I could totally understand if Midway wouldn' t be able to have any titles available at the Xbox360 launch because of time constraints and whatnot BUT according to Magicbox, Midway won' t have any titles available at the Xbox 360' s launch because they claim that the Xbox 360 install base is too small, whereas they plan on having PlayStation 3 games available at its launch.

I mean EARTH to Midway, both the Xbox 360 AND PlayStation 3 have 0 install bases as of right now since they haven' t even been released yet, lol..

geeesh no kidding huh man? It' s ok though. Mxpxisafuckingdork and myself have sat down together and hashed things out. It turns out they were just intensely jealous of the level of coolness that I possessed and were hoping they could deflect some of it over to themselves. I told him one of my little secrets (disagree with everything Joe says) and now he' ll be much cooler so alls good.
