They're significantly reducing their profit margin by dopping to $199, but it's the only way they're going to maintain a strong lead over PS3 and remain competitive with Wii. It won't help them in Japan but it'll certainly help in the US and EU territories.

Yeah i read of this last night and this morning i saw the confirmation as well, so it is expected that these will be the prices after the cut: - Arcade (no hard drive) -- $199
- Pro (60GB) -- $299
- Elite (120GB) -- $399
Christmas will sell a lot of Xbox units...and more $$ for MS.

no guarantee this will appear comparably in Europe too. I mean $199 = £99 and that would be a huge drop in the UK.

no guarantee this will appear comparably in Europe too. I mean $199 = £99 and that would be a huge drop in the UK.
The Arcade retails for £149, so it's feasible.

its possible I grant you, and it would be a massive step to drop below the £100 mark, its getting to the point where the casuals can buy this no problem for xmas and I guess that is what the idea is.
But with the ps3 gathering speed in the public consciousness and the wii still selling like hotcakes, is this a big roll of the dice for MS to stay in the game?

I've figured it out. MS workers want to buy PS3s, but they don't want to drop $400 on them, so they're just going to keep dropping their price until Sony is forced to drop. So, by the end of the year: 360=$50(Free in Japan), PS3=$350.

If it was $200 including hard drive it would be a blow to sony, I dont think the price is that big of a deal for what you get.

I would buy an Elite if it costs 400$ in Europe... That would be a 160$ price-cut in Denmark
