MotorStorm " in-engine" July Trailer - Jul 22, 2006 20:14
So Sony have decided that since launch is approaching they need to get realistic and start showing their games as they will be at launch have they?!

Erm, that' d be a no!

Sony have released a new " 720p" MotorStorm trailer (it' s up on playstation.com) that shows " in-engine" play.

For the muppets amongst us, " in-engine" doesn' t mean " gameplay" . In this regard (ie - a driving/racing game) it means a " replay" , which is fine right?

Yeah, ...mostly...

(the above are screencaps from the trailer)

...

The game looks standard but i didn' t expect much from it anyway. I can see the appeal, but it doesn' t appeal to ME.

What do i mean when i say that it' s " mostly" fine?!

It' s basically the same trick used by PGR3 where the replays have AA turned on (some would claim 16x), but in actual fact, the game doesn' t (like PGR3) have AA turned on while your playing and looks like this...

...

720p Trailer

Hey, i didn' t slate the game and i didn' t compare it to the E305 CG! Aren' t i doing well!!!!

C' mon, everyone here knows you' re dying to.

I hate that in-engine stuff, because everytime I see Gran Turismo games, they
scare me because of how real they look (scare as in " how is this achievable?" )

Then, when I actually play the game, I am like ey? Where are those sexy
graphics... Then after the race it gives me the option to press " Replay" ....

There they are! The graphics are in the replay!

Cack, cack, cack... That' s all I say, then I turn the game off..

Motorstorm is doing the SAME thing as Gran Turismo does... Not impressed.

Bring on Forza 2!

Edit: Downloading the trailer now... I am so glad that this game appeals to
idiots, the more idiots that are downloading it, the faster I receive it. Hehe.

Wow... 20 seconds?!

I like how the background motion blur hides murky low res textures.

why not upload what we saw from e3 2006 when themself played it before people.

Looked like a ps2 game in 720p.

WTF,i just saw the trailer, this looked 100000 better then motorstorm gameplay footage shown in e3 2006,wtf.

Are they luring us again.?

Because this video is obviously from the newest build. It looked terrible at E3 but it was always going to improve.

I dont belive that for a bit, that you can go from that graphjioc to that,in 2 months.

if that was the case, they wouldnt have showed us crappy in game footage in June.
And then show 100000 better looking graphic in july.

Something is very fishy here.

I wouldnt jump to conclusions about AA and other detail subjects.. but if that is ingame / or alike what the Final version of MStorm, it already Kills any 360 game ive seen in the ' Motion / movement / 3D Flops' area.

No its BS,suddenly the car drives twice as fast, and has twice as good graphic in a video nobody plays,in terms of the gameplay booth of the game in e3 2006.

Its not how the game iwll look ffs.

We know RSX can' t do HDR & FSAA simultaneously already. This game is said to use HDR. What does that leave the game without???

Like i siad, it' s from a replay and has post processing effects applied. That much is obvious.

The game looks like...

...and uses full background blur to hide low resolution environmental textures.

This is how the game looked at E3...

It should be taken into account that this game will be up against Flatout 2, Sega Rally Revo and Colin McRae: DiRT.

I don' t have any problems with the graphics, it looks kind of cool even though it might lack AA or whatever you guys want. I like the dirty racing style they' ve created. What' s bothering me is that we' ve only seen one course so far, or all the courses look the same. No matter how much I like a dirty race, I' d like to see some more variety in courses.

With Flatout 2 coming to current gen game consoles and another for next gen this game is gonna be hard pressed to capture peoples attention as Flatout gots this type of action nailed nicely and now its moving not just into back country areas but cities as well. With that even Burnout is now in for some competition from Flatout.

Motorstorm does seem to have a diverse set of vehicles tho.

This game has definately improved since GDC and E3 but it' s still a long stretch from the CG " target render" from last year. I' m just glad Sony are starting to show the ACTUAL games, even if they are being sneaky.

The screencaps i took from the new trailer are what the REPLAY' s will look like with the actual game looking like...

...now nobody can hard on about AA because even Project Gotham doesn' t have FSAA during gameplay, only during replays, but unlike Gotham, this would seem to have bland environments mapped with relatively low res textures that are hidden by full screen motion blur.

Note that this...

...is from the trailer when the vehicles are stationary.

It' s not an ugly game by far, but it' s not exactly stunning either and i want a good/great game for my £50. Especially when it' s going to be played on my £425 " super computer" ...

As long as this game has progressed (gotten both faster and prettier) than the E32006 build and has a good variety (like ginjirou said we' ve only seen canyon tracks so far) of environments then it should be a standard (like say Full Auto on 360) launch title rather than a complete dud.

looks like your typical playstation launch title, where you have current-gen stuff mixed with some next gen things.

It isn' t very impressive visually but it looks like it' s really fun

Sony care. This is definately a launch title and a title that they' ve made a big fuss about.

It doesn' t look fun as some would claim. I think Excite Truck will prove to be far more appealing and " fun" than this.
