Tom Clancy Air Combat - Sep 26, 2007 03:10

Ubisoft Takes To The Skies With New Tom Clancy Air Combat Brand

Chertsey, England – September 25, 2007 – Ubisoft, one of the world’s largest video game publishers, announced the creation of a new Tom Clancy franchise being developed by Ubisoft’s Bucharest studio for next generation consoles and PC. The first air combat game taking place in Tom Clancy’s universe, the brand will launch in 2008.

“Ubisoft has an unrivalled track record of creating and sustaining new brands,” said Serge Hascoet, chief creative officer at Ubisoft. “Our commitment to refreshing our catalogue with regular introduction of new IPs is what keeps gamers coming back for more. With this new brand we’re redefining the aerial combat genre and extending the Tom Clancy universe to deliver a compelling new action titles to next-generation gamers.”

Set in the near future, the game imagines a world where a private military force has accumulated such power that it attacks the USA. Thrust into the cockpits of incredibly powerful and technologically advanced jet fighters, gamers will benefit from hi-tech piloting assistance, providing comfort, security and enhanced perception. As players gain skills and confidence, they will be able to shed the assistance. But before choosing performance over security, they’ll have to weigh the risks carefully.

“We are confident that this new brand will become the new benchmark for flight combat games and will be, like other Tom Clancy based games, an instant online multiplayer hit,” says Sebastien Delen, managing director of Ubisoft’s Bucharest studio. “The player will experience all the action and excitement of modern air combat, from intense dog fighting to tactical strikes.”

MMmmm im a bit sceptical to say the least, its a bit silly slapping tom clancy' s name onto everything, even if it has nothing or little to do with it.

You mean the japaneese market is filled with great FPS games and RT strategy titles?

Japaneese are just as conservative as us, just the other way around, they think its fun having a pet dog in a game. Where as i like to shoot people and see them die violently, you can argue which is most healthy all you want!

Tell that to the poor salary-men who have to come up with the Charizard animations for the next eight Pokemon games!

You mean aside from reviving the entire industry and making most of the best consoles ever?

Okay i might exagerate a bit, but im not a great fan of everything from japan. Well very little, im not to keen on platformers since i like story driven games, im not a great fan of FF because i like games with good gameplay.

Shadow of the Colossus is a great game and so is ICO, though i actualy thought they were placed in the US.

In any case i find it amusing you spent so much time typing down lots of game names. I could type as many if not more western type games.

Its a matter of taste really.

ROFL

Go on then!!!

Match that tiny list pund-for-pound for Each Genre!!!

EG: Music, Plattform, Racing, 2d Fighter, 3d fighter, RPG, brawler, Puzzle, Pinball, Soccer, Sim, Pet, Brain, 2D shooter, 3D shooter, Rhythm, ECT, ECT.

If you can name Western equivalents of (atleast) 50% of them genre' s i' ll be impressed!

AND If they are anywhere near as good as the Jpanese Genre equivalents I' ll be Super impressed!

Don' t get me Wrong, i love my FPS' s, especially on the right plattform (PC) but in most cases Japanese > Western.

I like how you mix good games with utter crap there. Take out about 10 of those games out and I agree.

And what kind of retard mentions Final Fantasy II as a good game when its the *Worse* in the ***ing series? I realize you' re an idiot and probably meant Final Fantasy IV, but you should still be shot for that. Asshole.

Music = Why would i play this?

Platform = Banjo

Racing = Rollcage

2d Fighter = Why would i play this?

3d Fighter = For the limited fun these games are, there are no equilavents in the west that i know of

RPG = This is a no brainer, Japaneese devs cant make RPG' s, anything out of Bioware, Black Isle, Troika and Obsidian pawns all the bishonen boys to ever come out of Japan

Brawler = Thats like Streets of Rage? Cant come up with anything

Puzzle = Tetris and Zuma are king

Soccer = Sensible Soccer is the most fun iv had

Sim = Civilization

Pet = Why would i play this? i got 3 cats, i can pet them, hit them, feed them, starve them, train them.

Brain = I get enough of this with my MCSA studies.

2d shooter = Raptor is fun

3d shooter = This category is easy since i could pick out pretty much anything

Rhythm = Why would i play this?

Actually Pilotwings 64 was not developed in Japan (nor by Nintendo).

I agree that games from Japan tend to be better than games from the West. There are definitely exceptions, though. I' d rather play Namco' s Ace Combat 6 over ANY Tom Clancy game. Trivia: Ace Combat used to be called Air Combat in the states.

As i said its a matter of taste, console gamers will probably prefer japaneese games, though PC gamers will tend to prefer western games.
