Memory Process changed for 360 - Aug 17, 2007 20:16

So how many different iterations of 360' s are there going to be? Will this really make that much of a performance difference or affect failure rates?

Not bad. The original chip was in 130nm if I recall correctly.

Edit: To answer your question, it the user won' t see a single improvement in the way their 360 runs. I' ve never heard of a 360 failing from DRAM, so there' s really not much else there in the way of stability.

In the end it' s a cost reduction move from Microsoft. Smaller chips mean that they can get more of ' em out of one silicon wafer.

So it appears to be pretty uneventful.... that is, unless the new DRAM chips start cooking in the new motherboards. God I' d pay to see them screw up with something that big.

All this is, is a natural and inevitable way to cost reduce production. It means nothing for consumers.
