It' s just a cool video effect requiring projection. Notice that the camera never moves. It can' t. It can zoom, but it can' t, say, walk around the person. The video where they are on the street, the guy is really inside. The background is chroma-keyed behind him and the " see-through" stuff is projected onto his special jacket. Only the jacket reflects, things like his face do not.

There are more simple ways to do this, like wear a green jacket standing in front of a green screen.

....i bet the USA military have been trying to develop Active Camouflage ever since ' Predator ' came out.....

In our lifetime? Hard to say, but I' m going to lean on " no" . And if it was, it certainly wouldn' t be affordable to Japanese high school students. Something real and portable would require a lot of light bending and a LOT of power consumption.

hmmm, now, a mask using the same capabilities with buttonhole eyes would work in theory, but its effectiveness in rural capabilities has yet to be seen. it almost looks like you are looking at a poor quality cell phone picture of the surroundings, it throws my eye off when i look at it.

Even if we could get a decent picture, this whole settup runs like an overhead projector system, they just made the screen flexible and portable. 10 out of 10 for cleverness, negative several thousand for portability. At most this could be used to disguise a small to medium sized stationary object from long range to sattelite surveillance, limiting it to making a broken down tank look like a largish pile of rubble or a van.At least we won' t have to worry about short-outs during a jump off a bridge in the rain.
