Bungie Has Different Plans After Halo 2

Sounds like Bungie is sayin' that the Halo series may just make a comeback...but afterwhile, that is. Oooooh, Yeeaaaahhh! Bungie Has Different Plans After Halo 2 Posted by: Charles on Monday, October 4th, 2004 Source: http://www.eurogamer.net Bungie plans to do " something different" now that Halo 2 is finished, studio manager Peter Parsons told the BBC last week, scotching suggestions that another sequel to Halo would be the Microsoft-owned developer’s next project. But despite Halo 2 having barely made it out of the door (and being more than a month away from release), Parsons isn’t shy about contemplating the future. " After Halo 2 we are planning to do something different," he said. " We will do something else and we have a few ideas." However fans of the series will be pleased to hear that it’s not abandoning Halo by any stretch of the imagination. " We have several hundred years of Halo fiction laid out," Parsons tells the BBC at one point, and on the subject of a possible movie adaptation, he says " Maybe some day," adding that there’s been interest, " but it is not something we are thinking about." Of course, with Xbox 2 now very much the focus of Microsoft’s plans - whether they’re willing to talk about it yet or not - and considering what Halo did for the original Xbox, it’s highly likely that Bungie is being prepped to deliver one of the system’s launch titles. Whatever the team is working on, we’ll be sure to let you know as soon as we hear anything.

Good. I hope they make an original game. Not another Oni. Damn, how many games have they made in their existence? Not too many. They do need to diversify, that' s for sure.

Ok, Joe... What kinda game would you like to see them make? Personally, I would like to see them make some sports games...they know how to put detail into their games, and I believe they would be great at anything they do...

I' m a big fan of a developer sticking to what they know. I' m not entirely sure what other genres Bungie would be good at but it would seem that they are extremely good at making FPS' s. I would just focus on that genre and try to do some new things with that.

A puzzle game would be good. Like Tetris but with Halo characters instead of blocks.

Sounds good to me. But I would suggest that they not stray too far from the beaten path. I' m not sure I' d be all that interested in a Bungie RPG or strategy game, for example. I say a top-notch 3D action game should be in their realm of expertise; something along the lines of DMC, NG, Onimusha, or Otogi. Or, they could try to evolutionize the FPS genre just a bit, maybe by creating a game like Deus Ex that broke some boundaries and blended some genre elements. The FPS genre is in DIRE need of that, especially after the blandness and " been there, done that" of recent titles like Far Cry, DOOM 3, and Painkiller. Great games, all (I actually thought Painkiller was better than DOOM 3), but none brought anything new to the table. The last FPS I can think of that did was Red Faction, and before that, Deus Ex and Half-Life. We' re due for something new from FPS' s, and maybe Bungie can give it to us.

Straying from the familiar path isn' t bad but I think it might be in their best interest to have Halo 3 in the works for the Xbox 2 (Xbox Next). Hopefully have it released within that console' s U.S. launch window.
