Cassette Tape To CD...I Could Use Some Help...

I have a PC, equipped with Windows XP home edition. I also have a cassette player. A teacher, at my daughter' s school, wants me to record this cassette tape onto CD. I was thinking that there should be the capability with a patch cord from my cassette player to the microphone jack on the computer, but I have not accomplished this task. This is where I could use some assistance from someone who may know a little something about how to successfully complete this task. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

You want the Line In jack, not the microphone jack. Make sure your sound card is set up properly and record the file at 16-bit Stereo, 44.1 Khz (or 44100Hz). I don' t know what you would use to record with Windows. I do all of my A/V stuff on my Mac, and the web stuff on the Windows machine.

Everything Joe said, plus I believe the default sound recording application that comes with MOST Windows Operating Systems is SOUND RECORDER.
It' s pretty basic but I like it a lot, it' s always been great to return to when higher profile sound software suddenly act up for no apparent reason whatsoever.
