Thanks for that link. The shots posted are fantastic. It is really amazing what they are able to duplicate with that engine. Especially when you consider that it runs in real time, if you have a powerful PC.

Impressive work. I would like to compare with bmp-images though. Since too much detail of what makes something real gets easily lost in the compressed blurry look of jpg' s. So it' s not totally fair to compare that way. What' s hard to recreate always is water I think. Usually real life water looks still a bit more chaotic than the computer counterparts. Still, very well done of course.

if my eyesight wasn' t 20/20 i wouldn' t be able to tell the difference between reality and crysis. The pictures are so realistic.

I enjoy Crysis more than the rest of reality.

WTF is Crysis? Another first person shooter? The picture at the top with the chairs shows the biggest difference since the Crysis chairs look fake.

The one with the road looks fake, it is way too clean compared to the rest of the environment.

The foliage up close doesn' t look real at all. We are far, far, far from reality.

I don' t know that we' re THAT far from reality, loco. Those shots do look damn realistic. I think they show how far we' ve come toward simulating reality, but it also shows our shortcomings. For instance, the sky, in reality, looks WAAY better than in Crysis. Also, the foliage looks more random. In the Crysis screenshots it' s like they' re TRYING to look random, but falling short. Anyway, it is very close, as far as I' m concerned. Hell, I just watched Beowulf last night, and the environments in that movie, especially outdoors, looked spectacular! Then again Crysis is a game, and Beowulf is pre-rendered, so...

There is no doubt you can make a pre-rendered movie look real, but it also takes forever to render. You can do the calculation on how long it will be before a PC can do that on the fly if you want, but it is pretty far off from now.

yep anyone can make a realistic still of a game, it is how it looks in action that counts, and while crysis is good it can' t compare to the depth an image of reality has.
