Huh?! Variety is reporting that Paramount Pictures has picked up the rights to a film based on the life of Atari founder Nolan Bushnell. The film, titled simply Atari, will star Leonardo DiCaprio as Bushnell and will look at the video game luminary through the rise and fall of the titular company. Bushnell founded Atari in 1972 with partner Ted Dabney and saw it through many watershed gaming moments, including the releases of Pong and the Atari VCS. He was later forced out of the company in 1978, six years before the infamous game market crash, and went on to found the Chuck E. Cheese chain of restaurants. He is widely regarded as one of the founding fathers of the games industry. In addition to starring as Bushnell, DiCaprio will also be producing the film through his Appian Way production company. There is currently no word on when production will begin. I must say I' m surprised to see something like this come along.
