Exam Stress Release! - May 21, 2003 11:55
I usually come to Kikizo, or chat to my mates. but can anyome recommend any other methods to releive stress. I have 12hours of exams this week, and even though i' m sure i' ll do fine, that more exam hours then lectures i have been to, and the stress gets to you no matter how confident you are.

I have exams starting tomorrow. Want advice? Don' t give a crap about them. Worrying is the worst thing you can do. If you are ready you' ll do fine, if not you' re screwed. I have an A average in high school right now and am about to finish my junior year. I don' t really study and I don' t really care what my grades are as long as I give a little effort. I' m constantly stressed about grades though. I do get sick about them quite often but them I realise, once I get a job what does it matter? Just take the test and don' t care about it. It is a piece of paper. I get pissed when people judge me based on grades and stuff. If you are a good guy and try hard you' ll be set.

Thanks for that Rampage99. Your in the same situation as me. I also did very well in my A-Levels in the UK, and am just completing my !st year of University. I am sure I will do well and think I will take it easy. (Like I did last night watching Reloaded as soon as my local cinema sowed it, even though I had an exam this morning). Any way lots to do to back - back on the forums later!!

I just took my first final exam today. I didn' t study at all. I figure if I don' t know it by now I won' t know it. It was a math exam and I was slightly struggling in the class but I think I did great on the test. Tomorrow is Science, my studying for that will be playing Enter the Matrix which I picked up today

BTW, good luck on all of your exams!

I live in NZ and they have just introduced (2nd year to do it) a new system called NCEA and from 5th form to 7th form you have an exam pretty much every week and some times you can have 3 exams in one week and there are so many of them. You get a certain amount of credits from each on and you have to get a certain ammount of them for each subject then the entire year to pass, but the system runs on, " Not achieved, Achieved, Merit, Excellance" and you get full credits if you get achieved and above but you must meet the critera for Achieved like get question 1-10 right but if you go and get question 2 wrong by acident then you get Not achieved which s*cks. I have failed so many of them and I am in the top class in my year, and last year over 50% of people failed!

Jeez.

I don' t envy you guys. I finished a 4 year university degree a couple of years ago and i get chills talking to other people about their exams when they speak to me.

I think what works is going out of the house for like 30 minutes to get some drink or snack when you have sat there for hours looking at the same pages, sometimes it helps to have some semi-planned timetable that you will do 5 hours of revision... doesn' t matter what time, you' ll just do it - no distractions.

Anyhoos - you don' t need a flashy degree to work in the games industry... you don' t know how important experience is. I got straight As for everything and even a first class honours in my degree... but it' s the 3 years working solidly in PR that got me where i am now at SCEE.

Sharan, what do you want to do in the industry?

Conversely I left school at 16 with no qualifications but did the same thing, I just worked my way up through sales into buying and became head of my own dept. Problem is the games industry is slightly disappointing further up the tree. Actually liking games seems to be something to be ashamed of, this has come through years of nepotism which unfortunately is rife in this industry for all the wrong reasons.

Jennie is lucky enough to be in specialist PR which is probably the last place you’ll find the core gamers, outside that its pretty boring and PR can go from being very satisfying to being surrounded by nobs who really think too much of themselves. PR seems to have many forms but start at the bottom and work your way up, however it really depends how helpful or obnoxious your boss is.

Exams Over!

Thank goodness for that! now I can have a nice 4 Month vacation thinking about nothingness.

Jennie I dont know what I want to do at all work-wise. Adam suggested I look into games development as I am doing a relevent Degree (Computer Science), & ofcourse due to my love of games. The sole reason I chose the Degree is because I knew I would find it easy. I tried looking for work experience in games development or media, but I unfortunately applied to late for this summer, for both paid and unpaid work experience. At least I know what to do for next year, and when to start.

As for this summer now, I dread to think what i will do for the next 4 Months. For the next week or so I will slowly be transfering all my belonging from my rented Accomodation next to my University, back to my home in London.

The only other thing I can think of doing at this moment of time for the summer is attending all those PR parties, and maybe preparing something for ECTS time.

Anyway time for me to go, I shall return to see what advice has been left for me soon!

Any time for me to think hard...................

We get two weeks for Christmas and 8 days for Spring Break. The days are not made up for during the school year. This is because families that have both parents working don' t want to pay for day care and have been pushing to have school more out of the year so it doesn' t clash with their business schedules. This really ticks me off. Kids need a break from school. It is proven it helps kids learn better.

Oh well, sorry to hear.
I have my 4 Months now, 3weeks for December for Christmas, and 1 month for Easter. I think they are way to long, and feel they should distribute the holidays abit more evenly. When I was in Primary/Secondary School, i never had much in the ways of holidays, so it seems university seems to give us back the missed times.

Well I' m glad Universities give that much vacation. I hate being cramped up in school so much! Well, only one more year of high school and then I' m off to college.

Today, Monday is the first real day of my holiday since my exams, and I spent it looking for a Job

I went all around Central London going from shop to shop, but the fault I had on my CV was the lack of Retail Experience. I managed so far two shops replied and offered me interviews, both on thursday. I hope I get one of these two jobs

Any way if any Kikizo forum users know of any jobs in London which are sutiable for a Uni student with four months holiday please dont hesitate to post here

Was just reflecting over this topic as I start preparing to go back to university on the 22nd! I ended up haveing a decent holiday - missing alot of my uni friends who live so gar away. It was nice to see some old local mates again, but we all seem to have changed during our first year at uni, and felt more apart!

Anyway I am really looking forward to uni! I really enjoyed the 1st year, and mno matter how many people tell me that the second year is all about work, I am sure I will enjoy myself as well.

Also I got a letter from work today! (I managed to get a job in Barclays Bank Marketing Depertment for the Summer), They are giving me a higher pay, and allowing me to work weekendsonly , which is pefect while I am at uni.

Maybe I can afford to replace my broken PS2 now!

Uni for me on the 20th - luckily I' m really relaxed about exams (too much my mum says) so they don' t bother me, plus I get good grades. Come to Cardiff and visit Sharan ;) we can play Sonic until 8am...
